It's a very low price for what is probably one of the most popular of the older A/S models. In fact it is only just above a price at which you should be thinking that the seller is a scammer.
There are lots of reasons why vans get advertised cheaply, and it's seldom because the seller does not know what it is worth. So... previous history might be one - has it been written off, or stolen/ringed? Is the bodywork worse than a casual inspection would suggest? This is quite common on mid-90's Transits. Is the interior in poor condition? It's not always easy to see this from medium resolution photos.
The uneven idle may be awkward and expensive to resolve - the obvious candidate on a diesel Transit would be the high pressure fuel pump, which are known to cause issues. The other question to ask would be whether it is the turbodiesel, as this is much more pleasant to drive.
Is the sale a completely conventional one, where you go and look and then pay up to drive it away, or is there some story about why you can't see it before buying?
[BTW, please don't post on the forum in all capitals!]

Hi
thanks for the information I did have a good look around inside is in good order and the person selling is 5mins away he seems genuine he is going to trade it in soon if he cannot sell as he is getting a bigger campervan, I looked on the mot history and the mileage checks out the underneath seems ok for age my only worries is the engine idle, I did look at prices on gum tree and news now and it does seem cheap he did have it on for £9995 originally but he would rather have cash than trade.

You can sometimes get really good deals from people who don't want to deal with the trade, but go in with your eyes open. The body needs a careful looking at, because there are several areas (e.g. the bulkhead under the windscreen, and the front suspension top mounts) which are difficult to see, and can be very, very expensive to fix if they are bad). I've spoken in the past to a new Duetto owner who only found out how bad the corrosion was when the second battery fell through the inner wing onto the front passenger side wheel!
But at that price though you could afford to have a bit of work done - as his original price suggests, a private sale would normally be £10k+

Re: ford deutto 2.5 deisel 1996 70000 miles
Hi many thanks for the information I am going to have anther look tomorrow and will look at the areas yuou have stated he did say the dealer offered £8000 but he has to take it off the island and the ferry price and fuel will add to his travel costs so he says he will let it go for £7500 if the body work is okay ( he has stated that the body has had work and welding done and named the local company that did the work he will show paperwork tomorrow with mot history so I guess my main concern would be the engine idle he states he thinks it a air problem but he's not to sure all the appliances work and the interior is in very good order cheers mike

Could be right - it's possible that there's an air leak on the pressurised side after the turbo, though you are likely to get plenty of black smoke under heavy throttle with that. Another option may be an EGR valve fault - mine failed after about 6 or 7 years, though they can be "fixed" at very little cost. It's fair to assume though that it won't be something dead simple to fix, as he will have tried the easy things already.

It's a very low price for that year, mileage and condition which seems pretty good from the photo's. I agree with much of what MoJo says and given the asking price it's worth spending a few quid on an engineers report.

Re: ford deutto 2.5 deisel 1996 70000 miles
Hello
I have just joined having just purchased a 1996 Duetto turbo diesel in genuinely good condition. I am not satisfied I know enough about the underside and the remote rusting points and intend to further investigate but I have spoken to the previous owners and there is a history of renewal (doors, sills, wheel arches) and with a genuine 79k with an interior which has been remarkably well maintained, we are very pleased. We paid just under £10k for it. I would want to be very satisfied indeed with my due diligence before paying as little as £7500 as rust is the main worry. Engines can be fixed and if it is genuine you have plenty to cover the cost. Good luck and enjoy it as I have no doubt we will over the coming years.
