First outing this year
Hello fellow motorhomers,
Hoping to take our van out next week for a couple of days. Even though we are Yorkshire residents, I wondered if anyone had a particular site that they could recommend. We've already been to Threshfield, Gargrave, Appletreewick and Orcaber farm near Austwick and enjoyed them all. Ideally, we like to be within a mile or less of a pub.
Many thanks,
Liz

The CC site at Hawes is good, but may be too far. Some nice pubs in the town as well as one of the best Chippies in the country.

Scrub that idea, I have just checked on the CC site, and it says...Liz n wrote:Many thanks, Peter,

"This site will be closing for exciting redevelopment in January 2017. It will partially reopen from April 2017, with 55 pitches available, as a service point only site with no toilet block or motorhome facilities. The site will fully reopen at the end of June 2017. Thank you for your patience whilst these works take place."
After June 2017, it will be even better with one of the new full width disposal grills.
The site at Leyburn is open and a 10 min walk into town. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/yorkshire/north-yorkshire/lower-wensleydale-caravan-club-site/

Thanks, Peter,
The same is going on at the CC site in Threshfield, but don't think they open until this July.
Will keep looking.

Wharfedale site at Threshfields is good, onsite club or short walk to village pub.

Re: First outing this year
I've not been since 2011, but Westfield Lodge is a lovely site at Hutton le Hole
http://www.huttonleholecaravanpark.co.uk/
It's a nice walk in to the lovely village, where The Crown does excellent meals and real ale. Nice craft centre there too.
My most regular site is C&MC Brown Moor at Hawes, which again is a fairly short walk in to the village and pubs.

Re: First outing this year
Just to add to PeterLs post, the Lower Wensleydale site is ideal for walkers etc, just 5 minutes walk from the pretty town of Leyburn, plenty of shops, small retail outlets (home made chocolate factory)
Tennants auctions 1/2 mile away with a wonderful restaurant open on sales days, 17th 24/25th 31st March.
When we were last there we had dozens of wee ducklings wondering around the site.
Not forgetting our local site here in Bridlington ,seems to be getting busy judging by the amount of vans heading for the site. The ship inn has 4 vans parked up this morning

Thanks, Boaby,
Yes, we agree that site looks very good with lots to do in the area. Not surprised that you have seen some vans about. It feels as if winter is now behind us.

Boaby, if you can walk from Lower Wensleydale to Leyburn in 5 minutes you should be signing up for the Olympics It's more like a 15 minute walk but not a difficult one. You're right about the ducks thoughburlingtonboaby wrote:Just to add to PeterLs post, the Lower Wensleydale site is ideal for walkers etc, just 5 minutes walk from the pretty town of Leyburn, plenty of shops, small retail outlets (home made chocolate factory)

Re: First outing this year
We stayed at the C&CC CS just outside Leyburn last year. Leyburn has a good selection of pubs and cafes for morning coffee. I think it was about 15 minutes walk from the site into the town.

Might resort to using the bicycles to get to the pubs. The return wobble home always interesting!
As for the weather, I'm hoping the storm will have passed before we venture off on Tues, but having spent so many holidays in Scotland, we've got all the gear!

I know all the short cuts Tony, you used to be able to get onto the main road via the static site next door , I was talking a country five minutes. The Peacocks from across the road used to fly in after the wee chicks .

Think you must have been using roller skates to get there or did you get a hudgy on the back of a train
There was a peacock roaming round the site when we were there but I think it thought it was another duck. It nearly got a kick up the tail from me as it kept trying to peck dead insects off our MH. I "encouraged" it to move along

Re: First outing this year
We're big fans of Yorkshire too, especially the dales. There are a couple of private campsites in Hawes that are within easy walking distance of the town and are possible options whilst the CAMC site is unavailable. We love the great walking routes, lots to choose from, well signposted or/and with descriptive maps and usually easy to stop at a pub of cafe on route.
The people are great and the sun always shines (well mostly ), what's not to like

My other half, also being a Lancastrian, says that he likes both Yorkshire and Lancashire equally (very diplomatic! ) I think that Yorkshire beauty spots get a lot more publicity than those across the Pennies, but maybe that keeps the west side special.
If it was my choice, I would holiday in Scotland every time. We know the west coast very well and the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland just make you want to return again and again.

No worries, you did your intro Oct 31st.Liz n wrote:Sorry being thick here! Realise Paul's message for cazman. I'm a bit of a forum novice
I just pointed Cazman to the intro section as when someone just jumps straight into a thread, no-one knows they are there.
