Hello-Duetto Transit- new owner
Hello all,
I'm a new owner of a Duetto 1998 Transit (2.5di). Not had it long (2 weeks) so I'm still getting to grips with everything. Its in good condition with 52k miles and had one previous owner. It has got a couple of small rust spots just starting on the arches, but from what I've read this is normal for Transits of this age. I did have a few questions but I've managed to find the answers in this forum, so thanks to the people that asked before me and to the knowledgeable folks for answering them. Hopefully I can help someone out in the future once I get up to speed. Until then if you see or hear me clattering up the road give me a toot and a wave.
Cheers
Pete

welcome Pete
cracking MH the Duetto .
I love the layout and the Transit is a very cheap to run base vehicle too.
There is a very useful mod you can do the fuel pump pressure and ERG on a Mk5 that could potentially give you a huge increase in power .
If you have a looksee in the tech section on the Ford transit forum UK it will give you all the info.
I personally found the improvement simply staggering. My Mk5 went from being a slug grinding up hills in 2nd gear to actually charging up Snowdons hills in 3rd & 4th with ease and a 65mph cruising speed.

Hi and wecome from Gloucestershire. You cant beat the mk5 Transit, just keep it sprayed with oil under the panels and it should last for ever .

I did read about this and was thinking of doing it (maybe just the fuel pump adjustment not the ERG mod), can I ask how many turns you did Jonny as I read 2 is the max that should be considered.

the number of turns depends on where your fuel pressure setting is currently. Neither of us have any way of knowing what the current setting is.PeterHum wrote:johnnyxs wrote:welcome Pete

What I would suggest is that you first warm up the engine thoroughly then make a 1/2 turn initially and then take it for a run . try and find a steady steepish hill locally to try it out on. You need to put the engine under some load to really see the difference changing the setting makes.
I think from memory I ended up increasing my setting by 2x complete turns because I believe the previous owner had actually turned it down from stock for a 12 month European tour for economy purposes.
make sure that you actually mark your starting point on the pump as described and write down which direction and the turns so that you can return it to where it is at the moment if you need to start again.
I didn't block off my ERG although I bought the blanking plate however I did zip tie my throttle plate fully open which made a big difference to acceleration and throttle response but it does also increase the intake noise quite substantially so be aware of that. if you find it too noisy then its easy enough to just cut the zip tie and return to normal.

just a quick word of warning pete.PeterHum wrote:Thanks for the good advice. I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on
You need to undo the outer locknut obviously, in order to adjust the inner allen key screw . Make sure that you hold the allen key screw in place so that it doesn't move before you undo or retighten the outer locknut or you'll lose your setting.
