Duetto on Mk6 Transit
Hi al
Recently bought a 96 Duetto on an automatic Ford Transit with the turbo diesel to see if we could make the transition from a large twin axle caravan - seems we can lol.
It would seem as if, by chance!, we've found the ideal layout for us. We'd now like to get a newer van & looked at a 2003 Duetto - inside it was very similar to our's but seemed to have less space rear of the seating & from outside the van looked very boxy, nowhere near as pleasing on the eye as the mk5 - in our opinion.
After having a bit of search on here it appears the the later Duetto is based on the MWB Transit - is this always the case or are there any on the LWB? Can't see the point on spending circa £17k to replace the van & get less space.
Does anyone who has more knowledge than us, that would be nearly everyone on here lol, be able to suggest a replacement - would like to stay AS but not set in stone, especially if they didn't do the LWB version.
Many thanks
Col & Trish

Re: Duetto on Mk6 Transit
All MK6 and MK7 Duettos were built on the MWB Transit. Having had a MK5 for 7 years and 80,000 miles and a MK7 for 6 years and 45,000 miles, I would not be concerned about the difference in wheelbase.
We have been away for as long as 2½ months in both the MK5 and the MK7 and not had any difficulty. It is just a matter of attitude and adjusting to the space available.

Hi there,
They always reckon "Size isn't everything!" don't they ....
.... but we are happy with our LWB Mk5.
Best regards,

Thanks for all replies. If I'm going to change I would sooner go a little bigger rather than a little smaller as space is at a premium in a panel van conversion.
Would be interested in any recommendations on alternatives tho
thanks

Every so often been having a look @ a replacement for our '96 Duetto. Looking to spend no more than 20k & don't like the look of the Duetto on the mwb Transit.
Want to stay with a Transit & don't want to go over 20' ish in length - any ideas?
Thanks all

Re: Duetto on Mk6 Transit
I have only had a 2004 Duetto since the beginning of June but my wife and I are happy with the size and this layout suits us fine. We looked around for vans with two single beds and this was the best layout. My friend who repairs commercial vehicles for a living told me to steer clear of the unreliable fiat/citroen/peugeot eurovan. You just have to watch out for the rust on transits but a good spray underneath with diesel and old engine oil should fix that. MWB means that it will fit a space somewhere in most car parks.

Please don't let anyone spray old engine oil on the underside of your van.
Old engine oil typically has a very acidic content which can accelerate corrosion. It's also very bad for the environment when it washes off (which it will, almost immediately) into road runoff. The only proper destination for old engine oil is an approved recycling point at your local council tip.
