Kingham gas tank
Having owned ours for around 9mths now with a few niggles I'm finding the small gas tank to be a real bug bear . When we bought the van the friendly salesman from Marquis informed us that he knew of a few who had changed the tank for a larger one and pointed us in the direction of a company in thirsk who we knew of and are very helpful. Perhaps we should have spoken to them first ! As on visiting them with van they've told us it can only be replaced with one 2k bigger , enough for a couple of kettles. Has anybody fitted a larger gas tank , if so what make , source , issues please . I know there's a mention of one being done by another forum member ( cheers ) Interested in findings and sources / fitters / photos otherwise does anybody fancy a lovely low mile nearly new Kingham , thanks in advance , John

Re: Kingham gas tank
Don't know of any sources, so not much help I am afraid. What size is fitted to your van?
I do notice that A/S now say they fit 25ltr tanks, my Duo has a 20ltr and I found this able to allow us 4 weeks in France, until the gauge was showing only 1 led., we did use sites with EHU though to be fair and no heating in June.
I have never run out of LPG as I suspect the gauge is not giving a true reading when showing low.

Re: Kingham gas tank
Hi John
I know Chris Wise of Autogas 2000 quite well, and if he says you can't have a bigger tank I would take his word for it.
He is one of the best and most conscientious businessmen I know of, and if it could be done I'm sure he would have done it for you . . . just as he would have put a bigger tank on ours when we asked the same question.
I think your only possible option would be to have a second small tank fitted, linked to the existing one so it acts effectively as a single tank. I believe this is possible on some, but not all vans, so if this was not discussed with Chris you may want to phone him and enquire. He could have done that on our van, but we decided it wasn't cost effective, so I've stayed with the 20 litre tank.
It's not too much bother to be honest, but a bigger one would have been preferable.

Thanks for the reply Dave , yes I can confirm Chris was very helpful
, it was he who said it wasn't worth doing and I'd be wasting money, after giving the van a Good look over it's fine in uk just we venture into Pyrenees a lot Spanish side and it's been a pain , should have researched more instead of taking salesman word. My post is a bit of a fingers crossed job as I may end up flogging it , if I could revert to bottles I would cheers John

Re: Kingham gas tank
Hi yea we tend to do quite a bit of off grid stuff with trail bikes so generally base ourselves high up , we haven't ran out but have been close and dropping back down to find a petrol / auto gas place isn't always what we want , weather permitting we have a barbie and seperately gas bottle which saves a bit , it's an itch I'm scratching and hoping to come round with a solution, cheers Johnrgermain wrote:Don't know of any sources, so not much help I am afraid. Re: Kingham gas tank
You could john, if you really like the van otherwise, and are prepared to risk some possible financial loss when coming to sell it.Spadger wrote:, if I could revert to bottles I would cheers John
I don't see why you need outside access to a gas bottle locker, but there might be regulations that I don't know about!!
In theory it wouldn't be too difficult to section off a part of your underbed storage with a gas tight enclosure (close fitting lid for access) and tee in a bottle to supply your existing regulator. (Or use a bottle top regulator and tee in to the low pressure piping.) If you could get a decent sized bottle in, it would almost double your gas supply. The only other modification would be to cut a hole in the floor for a gas dropout. If nothing else, you would then have a very convenient, and substantial backup supply for when the tank runs out.
Is it worth the hassle though???? And don't do anything without checking the regulations first, as I'm no expert gas fitter. I'm sure Chris would know. I think he's a member of the Gas Council.

Re: Kingham gas tank
What do you mean by 2K ? The standard tank volume is 25 litres which will hold a maximum of 20 litres of liquid 'gas'.Spadger wrote:Having owned ours for around 9mths now with a few niggles I'm finding the small gas tank to be a real bug bear . .......... they've told us it can only be replaced with one 2k bigger.

Re: Kingham gas tank
One way round the LPG running low is to get a Dish Filling Adaptor, ebay lists them about £11.
Check you get the right one for the area you visit, or there are kits to cover all of the Continent.
As said before above, a lot cheaper than selling the van just for a bit of gas.

Re: Kingham gas tank
Cheers for that , we have adaptors for all Europe , it's the lack of available filling stations supplying gas in the areas we visit that's the problem hence trying to source bigger tank , a lot of the campsites in the areas we visit have very low amp electrics , lights fine , nothing else so we use gas , also when off grid , which is a lot , it was my mistake believing the supplier that it was an easy swop , hence initial post , we've had bigger vans , but they go are a compromise on single track roads with a trailer hence Kingham , cheers John

Re: Kingham gas tank
A possible solution is to carry a spare bottle and connect it through the external BBQ fitting. It will need a propane regulator.
I have used this "work around" when I had planned for extra gas consumption when parked up. We were using a camping trailer at the time so storage was not a big problem.
Suppose its all a compromise really.Normally our 20ltr tank will last for eight weeks if no heating is required

Re: Kingham gas tank
Hi Roger , yea that had been suggested and may be the way to go , we Certainly ate the gas at last venue , October in the Pyrenees can be a Bit unpredictable and the wife's a cold fish, a light ally bottle may be an option or something on the motorcycle trailer, the tanks empty now may experiment with that , cheers
