Leaky tap Empty Leaky tap

Post by david last Wed Apr 13, 2016 2:42 pm

Hello, sorry if this is an old one, but not in faq.
I have a 2006 Symbol and the kitchen tap is leaking from it's upper part.
I am told it will need a new cartridge but I have no idea how to replace this item. I cannot see how to dismantle the tap.
I am sure it is easy when you know how!
Any advice as to how to go about this would be very welcome, we are some distance from our nearest service centre.
I presume the AS parts Dept will supply me a cartridge.
Many thanks

It's a few years since I replaced my frost damaged cartridges. If it's the standard mixer tap, just pop out the hot/cold cap under the handle and this will reveal a small allen screw. Remove this and the handle should lift off revealing the nut that holds the cartridge in. Once you have it in your hand you should be able to get a match on ebay, no real need to go to AS as it's a common part and not very expensive.

The cartridge is available here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
On my tap (2012) you have to unscrew the chrome tap lever from the head to reveal a tamperproof Torx grub screw underneath (T10 or T8?). Removal of that allows the top to come off for access to the cartridge.
The leak might be from the spout o rings. They seem to be made of clear plastic on mine and may need to be descaled. It is possible that they can be replaced with conventional rubber ones. Also the trefoil shaped seal on the cartridge bottom could be damaged or scaled.
Hope this helps

Thanks chaps, disappointed AS Parts Dept. can't supply a cartridge.
Anyway the one I got didn't stop the leak so it looks like I have to get the complete tap assembly.
Let's hope AS Parts can assist with this.
