Friend has died :( 1994 Amethyst Value?
My friend passed away in September and I am his executor. He has/had an Autosleeper Amethyst registered April 1995 69,000 miles +/-
I know this is a "How much is a piece of string?" question, but I dont know what else to do to make sure I get a reasonable price for it:
I'll be fitting a new starter battery but, other than that, everything seems to be in reasonable condition for a 21 year old vehicle. My friend was quite a stickler for detail, so things had to work, and they had to be neat and tidy. I know he searched high and low, and was very picky, before buying this motorhome in July 2014 for £12,000. I wouldn't be surprised if it needed new tyres.
I suppose all I can ask is, if you were looking for something like this, what asking price might attract you to come and have a look and, assuming you find it in reasonably good condition, what might you be expecting to pay for it?
Many Thanks
Richard

You're absolutely right that it's almost impossible to value a van on the basis of a short description. Even high-res photos don't give enough detail to really know what the condition is like.
However, if you advertise it at £12k to get back what was paid originally I doubt you will have any trouble getting people to come and look and, if it's in good, tidy, clean condition, they will probably buy at, or close to, asking price.

I would agree with Mojo.
You don't get a whole lot for £12,000 these days, and if the van is in good nick with everything working, and (probably most importantly) it looks and smells good when you step into it, I think it would sell quite easily at that price.
It might be worth getting an AA inspection done, and/or a habitation check, as the certificates for either (or preferably both) would go a long way to give confidence to a prospective buyer. Probably worth spending a few hundred to enhance the possibility of an easy sale at a good price.

I had an AA inspection done on a van I sold years ago. What a waste of time & money - all tick boxes and opinions, no details to enable the buyer to make his / her own judgement.
The report concluded that my van had too many faults to make it economical to repair so the buyer backed out of the deal and gave me the report. I repaired all the actual faults for less than £100 and sold the van to someone else, I showed her the report and she laughed at how ridiculous it was.

Re: Friend has died :( 1994 Amethyst Value?
Sorry it's taken a while to reply. Thanks to all for the reassurances. I got it serviced and MOT'd in June, and advertised it for £12k, prepared to take £10k from anyone prepared to offer it.
Coincidentally, the dealer who sold it to my friend called on day three, and got to see it a day before someone else was coming with a supposed £10k in a carrier bag. He tried to get me to sell it for £9k, but the fact he was there meant it was worth £10k, and I knew/hoped he wasnt going to walk away. I offered it for £9750, asked him for a deal, and kept my mouth shut. We did the deal :)
Thanks again for the help!!
