Hi Thanks for the info.. The plan is to go Jan/Feb and miss the weather in the UK. Not set in stone yet.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
Silver screens certainly don't do the shows anymore and I can't recall seeing Taylormade either.
The only time I've heard anything said against silver screen was by Chris because they tried to talk us into having a cheaper set because they didn't think the layout of the van we had at the time warranted a set with the pull down front! They really are an excellent company to deal with over the phone.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
Hi Bikeralw
I used to take the longer covers with me on trips, however the previous owner left a new set of standard screens in the Sigma I purchased a few months ago, so I take the nice new ones instead.
No problems with fitting to screens as they lay on top of the wipers covering the air intake grills, two elastic cords with hooks attach to the front radiator grill to keep the front down.
I use a couple of bungee ropes across the windscreen, wing mirror to wing mirror and one large one in the middle attached to the grill.
Being on the coast here we have a good sea breeze all year round and the bungees keep the screens secure during the severe gales we tend to get sometimes.
Quality product, would purchased again.
I have a set of Hindermann Spectra black privacy screens I fit to the windscreen during the day, they provide excellent privacy and reduce the amount of heat from the sun coming in from your windscreen.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
I put lengths of foam pipe insulation (the type with the split) over both wiper blades when using the screens as over time the blades can cut into the screen.

Thanks for that information Boaby, and the tip Peter.
Oh, by the way, a trap was set, and the mouse is now an ex-mouse. Expanding foam has now been applied to all gaps in my garden shed to deter other rodents who may be looking for a free winter home..

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
As I said previously, we found the people at Silver Screens most helpful on the phone. My point earlier was that it was great to talk to a sales person who did not try to foist me off with something I really did not need (the mesh middle bit)... I put the phone down happily after the conversation, in the knowlege that should I find that I do need add it, at least I have the chance to find out before spending even more money....Peter Brown wrote:Silver screens certainly don't do the shows anymore and I can't recall seeing Taylormade either.

and can go back any time to purchase the item, should I wish.
Living in South West Wales, within sight of the sea and open to severe westerly gales (we have one today, in fact), I can verify that they stay in snugly place without the need for extra straps or bungies
By the way, this year, for our year 2000 Legend (Tranny) cab, our screens cost £139, which included VAT, and very speedy delivery plus a waterproof bag into which they slide easily (unlike some other purchases which can never be returned whence they came!

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
We bought Taylor Made for our 2003 Nuevo. We bought the long version which also cover the air intakes under the windscreen. Covers are excellent quality, take a couple of minutes to fit and we've not had any condensation the screen.
The covers come in a handy bag and roll up small enough to go under the bench seats.

We had what looks like the same type although different brand name. They may have worked but folded like cardboard, didn't have the drop down centre section and were inferior in every way.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
We had the original silver screens on the Broadway and they were excellent in every way; much better than the cheap ones referred to above, which were on an earlier van. For the Pilote A Class simply phoned them up and gave the model - they confirmed that they had the measurements (the other manufacturers wanted us to visit their premises for a measurements session) - so paid by CC over the phone and they were delivered in 2 days.
Very nervous about fitting them but should not have worried - the fit and the quality is first class.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
Thanks for the input on the last few posts. Yes, I know the old adage 'you only get what you pay for'. But on the other hand when a couple of companies get a virtual monopoly on a product, they tend to charge the highest price they can get away with.
This is after all a pretty basic low tech item, which at £140 upwards is way overpriced in my opinion.
I'm also of the opinion that lots of motorhome parts suppliers in this country think that just because we own an expensive product, we must have bottomless pockets when it comes to buying accessories for them.

Hi. I also like value for money. Its not always easy to tell if most expensive is best.
They must spend a lot on advertising the product, and that has to be paid for.
Other sayings come to mind.As one door shuts another opens.
Swings and roundabouts.

Try owning a yacht! We always looked for equivalents in caravan shops when we were sailors! Add 'marine' before a noun or a verb and you can treble the price!...bikeralw wrote:Thanks for the input on the last few posts. Yes, I know the old adage 'you only get what you pay for'. Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
Yacht! I know the rip off feeling, I also run motorbikes and find this all the time. The oil filter on my Buell is the same as that fitted to a Toyota Yaris, but like you say, three times the price is asked at a bike dealership! And how about a speed sensor for a Moto Guzzi, £125 to you sir, but go to a well known motor factor and the same part is £35..
Back on topic, I guess the consensus of opinion is that external screens are the way to go for long term or year round use, but if you just want to keep the van cool and add a bit of privacy when parked up, internals are best.

Take a look on the Vancomfort website for privacy screens, the Hindermann Spectra black screens are externally fitted and kept the front of the van cool without shutting out the light.
Excellent product.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
Just taken delivery of a set of genuine Silver Screens, complete with bag and centre mesh panel, plus a bit I wasn't expecting, a 'winter bib' that goes underneath and lower to tuck over the heater vents. All perfect condition secondhand in a big box that contained a set of unused internal screens still in original bag.. So I now have the best of both worlds for about half the new price.. I have to say the SS product is well made, I'm glad I didn't go for a cheap copy.

Re: Siver insulation screens: inside or outside?
I've now got a spare set of Silver Screens, used but in good condition. Reasonable offers considered!
I wanted to update to a set which covers the scuttle (as I've just discovered the collection area which the rubber drain hose fits to has rusted at the bottom so the hose is loose and I won't have a chance to deal with it until next spring, so don't want it getting any worse meanwhile).
I rang Silver Screens first but they advised they don't do that type.
Called Taylor Made who were very helpful (knew more about my model van than I did!) so I bought a set from them along with their bonnet cover, both of which are now snugly fitted to the van.

Ah! This swings me back to TM in my choice - having been influenced earlier in this thread by those members who advocated SS.
I've a Peugeot-based Nuevo on order. The ability to protect the scuttle seems to be important. That leads me to go for TM.
Difficult, isn't it? !

The Taylor made long version screens are ideal for keeping out the rain and rubbish from going into the intake vents, mine are looking abit weather beaten after 5 years of constant wear, however the material and stitching as strong as the day I purchased them.
