Any suggestions on where to buy an extention for our existing Fiamma bike rack which is 128cm to accommodate our new electric bikes please, We need to extend to 139cm. We have a Dorset (Symbol) Dont want to buy a new bike rack wonder if anyone has overcome this problem.

Have you tried contacting one of the Fiamma retailers such as Fiammastore? Fiamma are very good for spares and parts - in terms of availability - though in terms of price they can be shockingly expensive...

Yes I agree with Mojo, try Johns Cross who are fiamma agents and whose service is legendary.

Where is the bike rack?  I could be wrong but was looking to have bike rack fitted to rear door of my Dorset for elec bike, everyone I contacted said would not fit it as would put too much weight on the door panel.  As say just a though and I may have been given duff info.

We have a couple of e-bikes, but will NEVER stick-em on our rack as our 2 are Waaay too  heavy, one alone would break it for sure, BUT, they are around 5-6 years old, maybe the newer ones are lighter. hugegrins

80kg hanging from a rear door?  I'm not sure I would want to do that.

Edited: Sorry, Scotty, I made the wrong assumption.

We have a Boxer Rambler, I purchased a Fiamma rack which fitted to the back door. Two problems, first I found it hard to lift our electric bikes on the rack as they are about 20k each and the rack sits above the lights so is quite high and secondly and more important they were much to heavy for the door. I've now got a Thule rack which fits the tow bar and for our purposes it is ideal good.

Extending Bike rack for ebikes Empty Thank you everyone

Post by Bartonfolk Sun Jun 29, 2014 10:36 pm

Thanks everyone for all your helpful comments  smile!  and I will contact John Cross Motors tomorrow. Our bikes are folding ebikes weighing 15k each without the battery. We are so pleased with them and bought them from Pro-rider of Earls Barton in Northamptonshire. They are easy to use and in the great scheme of things only cost £550 each which are much less than others we looked at. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]  This company was recommended to us by a friend who also has these bikes and said their after sales service was great.  I'll let you know how we get on with them.

Spoke with John Cross Motors today and they recommend buying replacement rails  139cm long  Fiammia premium e rails, designed for electric bikes. So as long as we dont exceed the 35 k weight recommended for our bike rack, we should be ok......fingers crossed! Thanks again for all your comments and help.
So our transition from our Kon Tiki Coach Built to Symbol continues.....
- Garage still full of stuff!
- New lighter chairs bought
- Drip from sliding door fixed with a Fiamma Rain Guard
- Still looking for good lightweight internal screens that are small and compact to store

Now to investiate LilyPad awning or similiar.

But we love our Symbol/Dorset! I do miss the space but we are touring more. Really find the forum useful! Thank you all again

I know it isn't a van conversion but I fit 2 electric bikes minus batteries to the Fiamma rack on the back of the Clubman. Theres a 60kg limit on the rack but I always triangulate a tie down to the rear ladder to take some of the mass off the rack (and back panel) especially if hitting a bump/pothole
