Re: Wheel bolt questions
Hmm, not sure about that, my steel & alloy wheel bolts are the same thread/taper, BUT the bolts for the alloys are longer.

Re: Wheel bolt questions
Hi Modelman, It could be the alloy wheels are thicker. Therefore need longer bolts. These bolts would still be ok for the steel wheel. Then the steel wheel bolts would be short for the alloy wheels.!!
It seems overcomplicated to me.

Re: Wheel bolt questions
I have not yet tried the spare. When we bought the van I had great difficulty in finding suitable locking nuts for the alloys. When I did get them they matched the standard bolts in length. I would accept Auto-sleepers' assurance that the same bolts suit alloys and steel wheel. They should know!
But I don't understand why the manual is silent on all this!

Re: Wheel bolt questions
Here is a photo of the plate with one of the three bolts which have a plastic chamfer. Clearly, with the benefit of the explanation given here, NOT a spacer but an adapter for the carrier. Can't see exactly how to use it without playing with the carrier and an alloy wheel.inspiredron wrote:I will post a photo asap. No, just one as I only have one steel wheel -the spare.mikethebike wrote:Hi Ron, I do not think the converter has anything to do with the wheels. However they may know if the question has been asked before.
I would like to see your spacer. Never heard of that. You would need 4?
thanks
Mike

Re: Wheel bolt questions
Hi Ron, Its a nice looking piece. I take it you have to go under the van to do this mounting?
My van has a 50kilo? steel framework that you have to put the wheel in and be able to do a dead lift on your back to raise it.
Not at my time of life !!

At the moment, I assume that you have to use the three bolts to fit the plate to the alloy wheel, then get the whole thing the right way up on to the cradle (on your back halfway under the rear of the van and then, I assume, you attach the winder cable(?) to the cradle and use the pentagonal format Allen key (yes, pentagonal not hexagonal!) to get it up.
As you say - NOT AT MY AGE! That's why I pay for a breakdown service!
