Waste water tap Empty Waste water tap

Post by art Wed 22 Jan 2014 - 0:54

I have read on the forum that some members feel that the location and operation of the waste water tap could be improved.
I am in the process of fitting a motorised ball valve , to replace the waste water tap on the Duetto , (only as far as having a valve on order).
If anyone is interested , I will try to let you know how I get along.
I am not too sure how to get power to it yet , other than clipped/tied along the chassis.
Does anyone know the route of the original wiring (ie aux battery to fridge and zig)?
Does it run along the headlining or under the carpet?

Hi there,

A motorised valve??

I went for "Simple is best" and replaced this valve arrangement …..

….. with the plug underneath.   It looks like this ….

…… and works perfectly.  (The bit of spiral pipe is so that it fits into the clip underneath.)

Keep us posted on the MOV though! allthumbz

I had thought of fitting a valve (ball or NC solenoid) after snapping my third manual valve handle on our Pollensa, which uses the same version for the waste and fresh water tank drain points.  It tends to happen when they go brittle with a combination of age and cold weather.

I thought it would be convenient to be able to drive over the drain point on site and push the button from the comfort of the cab.

The I worked out the complication of power supply, wiring runs, fitting a button on the dash etc and the comparative costs, bearing in mind AS supply replacement manual valves at reasonable cost, and decided just to keep a spare in the 'van.

However I will still be interested to see how your project goes.

Been thinking of doing this for a while but not been able to source a valve.  Where did you get yours from ?

Celticbiker
This is the valve I have ordered.
 http://www.amazon.co.uk/MISOL-Motorized-reduce-Manual-electrical/dp/B00D6FCRO8
However when I ordered it , I found a webpage with the price just short of £17 inclusive of postage (can't seen to now) , so it might be worth doing a bit more web browsing.
Please bear in mind that the bore through the valve is reduced 15mm , and that I do not yet have the valve , and can not yet recommend its suitability.

That's one of the challenges I found. Reducing the bore is likely to encourage blockage, even with careful use of sink filter. Price for a 12V NC solenoid valve of a decent bore size was scary!

15mm is more than the the bore of the original waste tap , so although it might create problems , no more so , than the original.(hopefully).

For what its worth mine was stiff to operate. it was freed up easily with maintenance spray.
i do drain frequently, as i see no point in carrying gallons of waste water around.
Maybe using it frequently helps.

There are many valves on the web but take care to get NC type. Also beware - many of them are unsuitable for gravity systems as they use the water pressure to provide the force to open or close the valve. They seem to be diaphragm type rather than the rotating ball that you find in the manual washing machine isolation valves.

I have finally fitted the motorised ball valve an it seems to work fine after a good few tank drains,.
I  used a switch blanking plate  to fit a 2 pole 2 way center off switch and LED's (red for open , green for closed) on the dash.
It was painful running the wires , but the rest was straightforward.
I had to fabricate a suitable bracket to secure the valve to fix to the the inner sill , near to the original terry clip that used to hold the manual tap.
