Sorry Mick, I should have said. I am talking about a solid one, we want something to hang our kit on after sea kayaking.

Hi Bazil
Our retractable clothes line is fastened to one end wall of the bathroom & pulls out & hooks on to the opposite end wall it is four lines wide so it would hold quite a lot of kit or in our case washing , it is a strong piece of kit & will hold quite a lot of weight , this I know because my wife as tested it out with washing on quite a few occasions , would you have room to fit something like this or would a solid rail be better Mick

Re: Hanging rail
We used a sprung telescopic curtain rail in our Symphony to hang wet coats on..

Re: Hanging rail
That's a good idea, Paul, I assume it holds the weight? My big coat takes up quite a lot of space hanging in the van. I've got one of those hook things lying around somewhere in the garage, I'll have to fish it out.

We used to hang two coats and it held up fine.

Re: Hanging rail
I have one of the 5 hook hangers shown in Pauls Picture and it fits perfectly to the bottom of the shower wire storage basket - if your van has one fitted.

The spring-loaded telescopic rails are used for net curtains and available in various lengths frrom curtain shops.

Re: Hanging rail
How strong are they? we are looking at hanging kayaking dry suits that weigh about 4.5- 5 lb each.

Re: Hanging rail
The tension depends on the walls. Are they solid or is there movement?. I think the rails themselves are pretty strong but that weight will more than likely pull the poles from the walls. If your walls are solid maybe you could erect a proper rail such as inside the wardrobe. It all depends on whether the walls of the washroom are plastic or wood.

Re: Hanging rail
I have fitted a wooden pole in our shower room making a wooden support and using a strong impact glue to secure it too the wall. The support has a large surface area with a hole cut into it. The large surface area gives extra support and the pole slots into the hole. We hang about 5-6 coats on this.

Re: Hanging rail
I bought some U brackets and a steel oval rail from B&Q and asked the factory service centre to fit them in the shower for me when I was in for warranty work a few weeks ago. They kindly obliged and just screwed them on and I cannot even see any sealer. Presume as high up they didn't think it was needed but I am going to put some in just to be sure. I just cut the rail to length (firm fit length wise) and used an elastic band at each end to make sure the rail doesn't jump out in transit. Works a treat.
