GUTTED Stolen Harmony - Page 2 Empty Harmony

Post by algy Mon Jul 25, 2011 6:45 pm

Hi Alf....it was taxed with 2 days left,I had insured it when I bought it before setting off, remember when I gave the insurance co the details they would not see anything wrong and it only came to light when I went to put new road tax on it .I assume the tax disc that was on it was either a forgery but more likely stolen from the vehicle mine was cloned from weeks later..only guessing though...cheers..Algy

Hi Alf,I dont think the ins co will have the details remember its a different reg from the one that I insured,I insured it on the day I bought it,and there was days tax left on it I assume either a forged tax disc or more likley stolen from the vehicle cloned...cheers.Algy

Algy yes but asking your insurance company to look into the matter will get better results for you rather than you yourself will.

I would still as the PC that took your statement for the details of the insurance company that took the knock though

Just catching up after a few days away- I am really sorry that you have been robbed- how these * Inappropriate Word * can look a man in the eye knowing they are setting him up for a fall I just don't know, what really turns me cold is the thought that your experience could so easily have been mine, as I am really trusting it would never have occurred to me that someone could go to that much trouble to deceive me -all the best to you I hope things resolve well for you- you did every thing right as far as I can see.

GUTTED Stolen Harmony - Page 2 Empty Update

Post by algy Thu Aug 04, 2011 9:46 pm

Well upto date I have found the bobby who I met at the DVLA office has been great, helping with information that I need.He told me that the Hampshire police where looking at another possible clone again from Ebay.It turns out my AS was stolen on the 2nd June as I bought it on the 29th with its new identity.
Alf had posted some links earlier for me to look at,the first one was the Financial service ombudsman,I emailed them but then rang them,it turns out that if the consumer (me)completed an HPI check, recieved a V5,a reciept showing the amount paid and the sellers address even if proved to be false...along with a paid up insurance premium. All of which I have done or have. Then it turns out there may be a claim on the insurance that I took out on the camper. The FSO have said they will take it on for me starting with writing to the ins co.They have said that if I am not satisfied with the ins co reply, get back to the FSO with my reference and they will deal with it.So fingers toes and everything else crossed.Big thank you to your digging Alf......Algy

i am sorry for your loss and wish you well with the insurance. i would just like to say the price through e bay seems fair. when we were looking for a camper i found the book buy in price at £8;500. a dealer may on part exchange go up to 10,000 .the dealer would then mark this up to 14,000 +. this allows the dealer to valet, make good and service the vehicle. also gives a margin for warranty work that may need doing. overheads and there profit margin.i honestly believe you have done more than most would to insure that this was a safe purchase.

update, after the Financial Ombudsman wrote to the insurance company, well this is where I am upto, the insurance company rang me on Friday and said ...am I to understand that you expect us to settle your claim when in fact you bought a cloned vehicle!!!!...I then asked him to read issue 55 on the FOS website,he said he will have a look and ring me back,he rang me back 2 hours later and said could I let him have all the supporting documents listed on issue 55,...reading between the lines I would think the fact that it took 2 hours to ring back that he had sought advice perhaps from their legal dept.anyway a letter followed our chat the next day asking for the docs, for them to consider my claim.I gave them everything I have and gave them the crime ref number as he told me that he will be able to access any relevant info from that.As the police have the V5 and mot's.So thats it on the positive side the insurance co didnt just refuse to deal with it and was in fact very helpful..so once agan fingers crossed.......Algy

Thanks Whisky,I was going to post a PM to Paul today, well upto now I have been waiting from the reply from the ins co,after a couple of emails and a letter to them their reply came this week, you will remember from my earlier post and the post from Alf that it all hinged on issue 55 of the financial ombudsman service.Anyway they have reviewd this and have refused to pay (big suprise)on the grounds that the example in issue 55 the peron had bought a vehicle then it had been stolen and when recovered it turned out to be a clone.Whats the difference we had both bought a cloned vehicle but mine wasnt stolen from me.cant see it really....Anyway I have sent everything to the FOS who had asked me to if I was not satisfied with the ins co......I will update you again when I recieve their reply....thanks for asking regards...Algy

So sorry to hear that. The whole thing sounds unbelievable. The insurance companies have no problem taking our money year after year and hiking the prices up every year. Hope you get some satisfaction from the FOS. The wheels of justice turn very slowly.
Fingers crossed for you.
