Harmony fridge not working while travelling
Hi Everyone,
Because we always fill the fridge with well chilled items when we are off on a trip, and then once on site use the mains electricity supply, we managed not to realise for some time that the fridge was not working while we drove.
Ok, yes, the lack of amber light from the 12v fridge switch should have alerted us sooner, but when you are peering from the front passenger seat and the sun is beaming into the van it's not that easy to check. Well, that's my story.
The truth dawned on a trip to Norfolk, but as we'd had to have a new main battery and alternator during our previous travels in Devon (Don't ask, please!), we knew/hoped that wasn't the problem. As soon as we got home,I researched the forum's topics and found out that the likely cause was a faulty fuse. Following members' advice it was easy to locate the fuses 'dangling' above the main battery. A quick peek showed one was a goner and the other dirty. Local garage replaced both for free in a few minutes. They said we'd already spent so much money there over the years (too horribly true) and the fuses were only pence to buy anyway!
We are really happy to have sorted this out with your help. Thanks again,
Good wishes all round, Gran.

Good, glad it's sorted and nice to know there are some good guys in garages. We got the fuse holders replaced free of charge when we popped into AS whilst travelling close by last year.

Hi there,
I always love a good result and if it didn't cost anything then that's just "icing on the cake"!
Well done.
Best regards,

Hello again!
Have just spent a few more days away by the sea, (Last of the Summer's Briney?) and the fridge on 12v was so darned cold that we had solidly iced cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes when we got there! So yes, it does work and maybe a bit too well...unless there is a temperature control for 12v that I don't know about?
Hope you are all able to enjoy the late sunshine we've been having, Gran

Re: Harmony fridge not working while travelling
No there is no control over the 12v temp. In fact in shouldn't actually freeze at all, it's only supposed to maintain the temp not lower it. We found the fridge not working on 12v on the way to the Lincoln show this last weekend. Suspected the fuse /holder again (although only replaced couple of years ago) so cleaned the contacts which were corroded again but that made no difference, so replaced holder and new fuse (spares carried after last time) but still didn't work at the site. Anyway on the way home, checked it just in case and lo and behold, all working again!

Don't you just love them!!
The fridge is very sensitive to voltage so if you have a connection with slightly high resistance it will stop working. As resistance increases with heat a poor joint can allow the fridge to work when you start from cold but in use the joint heats, the resistance increases and the fridge stops working!!!!
