Trident VW T4 Headlight Replacement
Hi All
Just got back from our recent trip away & have a query about replacing of one of our headlamps which got hit by a stone as we were traveling
Just wondering if anyone here with a VW T4 body like the Trident, Trooper or Clubman has ever replaced their headlights as a quick look on Google bought quite a few up for the short nose units
(pre our 2001 model which is the long nose version with slanted headlamps) but I'm finding it difficult to locate them for ours mainly due to lack of time available since getting back.
I noticed online that replacement lenses could be purchased for the earlier headlamps, does anyone know if the lens can be replaced on ours or is it a new headlight as I suspect?
Regards
CC

Have you tried Barnes T4 a specialist dismantler/repairer just outside of Manchester. Haven't tried them myself yet but they come highly recommended and do parts by post. Even if they can't split a unit, second hand has got to be cheaper than the price of a new one (£115 from Just Kampers) and every little helps!!
Good luck

Hi Alf
We will fit headlight protectors if we keep our Trident, the VW T4 is in my experience very prone to getting hit by stones for some reason good tip for other T4 owners, the protectors are certainly cheaper than a new headlamp!

Thanks Carl
Think if we replace it we will probably get a new unit to be honest, from what I've read and seen many of the used / salvaged ones seem to have broken or damaged fixing lugs, but might contact them to see what they have, not sure about the electric motor to alter the light beam up and down? some seem to have this built in and others don't can anyone clarify?

I have located spares on ebay before now.
Thanks Ramblingon
Checked out a Caravelle unit in those listings which states for a long nose, but as above it states a mounting lug is broken but will have a better look tomorrow when I have more time. If it were a short nose T4 headlight it would seem they are plentiful but the long nose ones seem much harder to track down.
Guess we will have to get this fixed as I don't think we would feel happy selling our Trident with a damaged headlamp
Thanks for the replies & contacts everyone

Just an update, after much hunting around I eventually gave up & contacted a local VW dealership!
You don't have to replace the entire headlamp, instead you can buy a replacement glass lens for £18.99
Looks like it's just held on with metal clips, but good result and much cheaper that I first anticipated
Might help others to know of this cheaper option!
