Pimped our Duetto Empty Pimped our Duetto

Post by Paulwest55 Mon Jun 03, 2013 10:33 am

Well we have pimped our Duetto! Why? Well it was either change the layout or get rid of it. Due to my disabilities having the washroom did not work for me, it was to small and cramped. If we changed and bought a newer one what would we gain as most washrooms are small in this size van, moving up to a larger van would defeat the object of the flexibility the Duetto has i.e parking ect..... So we took a deep breath and this is what we did:

I will add more photos when finally finished. The Duetto is now great for me and we have now had our first successful outing in it. up!

Yea it took a bit of nerve but it was either do that or give up motorhoming so it was a no brainier we did it. It has given us a lot of space, we can put the table up down the end to for extra kitchen work tops and just about sit to the table if you wanted, great too when the back doors are open. up!

Thanks for the comments everyone, although it was nerve racking to get started on this project, it was a must do or give up scenario and as we had not been long at motorhoming we really did not want to give up without a fight, the Thetford Porta Potti Excellence is great by the way especially for disabled the hight is just right for me, we made a cushion for ours so it makes an extra seat to. I decided to do the website with as many photos as possible just in case there is anyone else with similar problems to me, but at that cross roads of what to do, well there is a choice dive in and give it a go, adapt your van to suit you.... up!

Hi Paul,

I thought I was being brave when I re-hung the toilet door on our Duetto, so it opened the other way allthumbz

I shall look forward to the finished job with interest.

Well done that man,

Andy smile!

Funny you should mention that Mr Gump, I've been thinking of doing that. Was it an easy job in the end?

Hi CB

It was a few years ago. but I seem to remember that it was on a long Piano Hinge, and I had to turn the door upside down. I think I had to use the original long strip of wood as the door stopper and the lock I think was in the middle (if you know what I mean).

It was a fairly easy DIY job, and made access to the loo much easier. We never used the loose bits that formed the shower cabinet as it weighed a ton.

Cheers Andy up!

Cheers Dutto, it certainly makes sense to change it if it does not work for you any more, it was great to find that autosleeper had carpeted right the way under the washroom saving us the job of trying to match up the existing carpet or having to completely re-carpet, not so much luck with the ceiling but that was not to bad to sort out. The shower taps were one of the biggest pains to remove, and we had to cut around them to get them out, hence I turned the hole into a 12 volt socket by making a panel and using the electrics left over from the cassette loo, it did all seem daunting to us at times but we have enjoyed it. Hope the grey cells get you active in pimping yours allthumbz

WOW!

VERY brave of you guys to take on a major job like that, & well done.

The only downside I can think of however, is that the possible re-sale value has been lowered, & I wonder that if a suitable sized van had been bought,

then you could have fitted it out to your own requirements, as ALL components are readily available out there, the cost would have been a fraction

of the cost of your present van, you obviously have the skills to have done it.

Top marks for the conversion though up!

Pimped our Duetto Empty Pimped Duetto

Post by Paulwest55 Sun Jun 09, 2013 8:57 am

Hi modelman, thanks but we have not special skills, most of the work done by my wife. As for costs the most expensive items were the porta potti £168 new curtains £107 and the head lining carpet £83 (we bought far to much, enough for two vans ) table leg hole socket £18 and with other little bits £500 max which has given us a vehicle we can use and enjoy and most of all continue motorhoming with. It was mostly time and effort but we enjoyed it. As for re-sale it's not an issue for us as we will now run it into the ground. We did think and look at other vans but in our budget they did not add any extra washroom space for someone with my disabilities unless we went for a larger vehicle, something we did not want to do. up!
