Symbol Safe
I know some Symbol, Symphony & similar vans have a safe bolted to the floor under the passenger seat.
Mine hasn't but there is a very handy tray where the wife keeps our large road atlases & maps, etc.
With the increasing number of break-ins down on the Med', I'm thinking of installing a safe, but have no idea of what to get.
Can you Peugeot van owners help me out here, what type?, what make?, are they secure?, who would install it?, is there room on top for a couple of large road atlases?
I've never thought about this before & would be grateful for any advice.

Re: Symbol Safe
On my Symphony, and I think most are the same, it's not so much a safe but a plate that fits on the open front of the seat box. If you look at this thread, you will see a photo of it................

A much stronger one is available for VW's, don't know if it would fit a Boxer....

we have one of these [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] it is big enough to hold money passports and sat nav and phones. I used to have in my old van a amunition box bolted to the floor under the rear seats with a big padlock on that you could lock bigger things in like laptop.

Re: Symbol Safe
I think the original "safe" in our Symphony could probably be forced open with a large screwdriver. Its a good idea, but Its not very secure.
I did think about fitting a small key operated safe within the Autosleeper "safe".

Re: Symbol Safe
Many thanks for the replies, I didn't realise the A/S safe wasn't a unit bolted to the floor. A half competent tea-leaf would have that metal flap off in a flash.
I don't rate the cable units either, decent bolt cutters would soon put paid to those.
I will probably bolt a small domestic safe to the floor in the cabinet under the nearside rear passenger seat which may be difficult to get to with a crowbar.

Re: Symbol Safe
Hi there,
My advice is:
1) Buy and install a prominent safe that can be removed without too much hassle; and then keep valuables hidden somewhere out of the way such as underneath the plastic sack in the rubbish bin!
2) Buy and install something that stops the vehicle being easily moved. (Wheel-lock, Krook-lock etc)
3) Buy and install an interior alarm. (£15 from most hardware stores.)
4) Only leave your vehicle parked in public places where there are dozens of people passing by.
5) Pray that no-one decides that your van is the source of their next "fix"!
6) Leave your pride and joy in the knowledge that statistically your valuables are safe as less than 1% of vans get attacked in any given year!
Best regards,

Symbol Safe
I know its not m/h related but,in our place in Turkey because the area has a lot of UK owned houses, then they are a target for the low life burglar quite a few of our friends have been victim to this. All of them had safes which wear duly broken into, one couple hid everything of value in the washing basket, the thief found all of this when they were robbed thtas after smashing the safe open,,another couple hid all there valubles behind the shoes in a cupboared and just a decoy valuble in the safe, and yep the burglar found that also.So what we do is take any valubles out with us passports etc,we dont take jewellery or much cash,we leave our safe open, and fingers crossed we have been lucky upto now.I think small safes are not fit for purpose really.....I think it doesnt matter were you hide stuff a thief will find it,my business partner leaves everything in easy pickings access with the view that if he gets hit then no damage will be done. Not for me that idea but I can see his point.....cheers...Algy

Ha! When we lived & worked in Dubai, Sharjah & Abu-Dhabi if we went away for any more than a few days, we'd stick anything of value into plastic seal bags, then into Tupperware boxes & bury them in the garden!!
Not much use for the MH though, but it can be implemented anywhere
