Hs anyone got a safe in a new van ?
I have asked before but I now have to assume that no-one here has fitted a safe into a recent van conversion. With the modern vans no longer getting a safe we need to fit one, but where and what model and how to bolt it down are all to be considered. Does anyone have any experience here ? I understand that my dealer will supply and fit one but where shall I put it in a Kingham ?

There is an underseat safe available for Boxers/Ducatos etc but it's all the way from Prague...

That looks ok apart from the fact that the lock looks a bit vunerable. Should be a bit further in so as not to be attacked with a hammer. I should be able to make one of those easy enough with a sunken lock assembly......

We had one already fitted in ours from new but not sure of make. I think location wise it needs to be reasonably 'out of sight' but accessible or like us getting at it is such a faff we don't use it.
Attachment wise it needs to be sufficiently firmly attached that you would need a crowbar causing serious structural damage to be able to remove it, I doubt there is anywhere it couldn't be removed from with sufficient time and force being applied? Bolted both through the floor and through a bulkhead would give you reasonable strength. Using HT round head bolts with the nuts inside the safe.

Now that's certainly what I need
And, it looks like it will take a netbook too.........
But, will if fit under the fancy swivel seats in an Autosleeper ?..........
This looks a nice neat job, I'll certainly look into it.
Thanks for the heads-up Paul

Hi Macloop
I fitted a safe into my Warwick XL similar to this one: http://campingequipmentshop.co.uk/small-motorhome-valuables-safe.html
I mounted it under the nearside rear seat just behind the wheel arch. Attached it to the underside of the top bar of the seat frame up against the wheel arch by drilling through the metal frame support into the top of the safe ( after removing the trim first) and securing with coach bolts.
Its easy to get too to use and is large enough to hold passports, money, & cards etc.
Of course, a determined thief would finally get into it but it wouldn't be easy.
regards
