1999 Ford Duetto safe keys
I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how I might gain access to the safe on my 1999 Ford Duetto campervan. I recently bought one, and found the safe locked, with no matching keys on either key ring. The dealers, when contacted, were unable to find the key and said they may never have had it when they bought the vehicle. I contacted Autosleepers but they emailed me they were unable to help.
I am out of ideas, anyone who has experienced a similar problem and found a solution out there? Any (helpful) suggestions are welcome lol. Thanks

Jenny,
Do you have any paperwork relating to the previous owner, to write or telephone them. They may have the keys at home.
Your dealer should have contact details for them, or failing that, you can enquire via DVLA.
I had an Al-Ko safe fitted to a caravan several years ago and it had a ridiculous sized key, which was too big to keep on the bunch of keys in my pocket, so it was kept separate.
I had electronic safes fitted in the motorhomes, which were not as strong, but didn't have the oversized key issue. They did have a small castle-ated key for the rare occasion of the batteries dying.
Failing all else, a local locksmith should be able to open it for you, and once open you will probably be able to replace the lock, or remove the safe entirely if you don't want it.
Ken.

Re safe key
I do have the details of the previous owner from the Registration Document. Thanks, I hesitated to contact him not wanting to 'be a nuisance', but if he is a typical forum member perhaps he would not mind. Thank you for your reply.

Exactly this ^^^^
Any good locksmith will open it and be able to advise on replacement. I lost a key to a small metal portable safe box. A local locksmith had it open in seconds and was able to cut two new keys for me.

Certainly worth contacting the previous owner as he/she may have secreted the key/s somewhere in the 'van and forgotten about it when selling.

The FS series of keys were also used in many caravans. You used to be able to go into the average caravan dealer/ shop and they would have a keyboard full of them.

Reading what I wrote above, I would not be surprised to find that many dealers still have their set of FS keys. Might be worth a couple of phone calls.

Is the key number inscribed on the lock face, often is. If so Ebay has lots of sellers with FS type key series for sale.

If It's the one under the passenger seat you could lift the seat (5 bolts) and remove the safe door from the inside by removing the bolt from the latch and take the door to a locksmith or just replace the lock.
