Symbol Tyre Pressures Empty Symbol Tyre Pressures

Post by mikemelson Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:57 pm

Hi,
What's the ideal tyre pressures for a Symbol?, mine's running at about 65psi. Is this enough?

The sticker on the doorpost states 72psi back & front, surely this is too high.

It would be interesting to find out what tyre pressures other Symbol owners use.

Symbol Tyre Pressures Empty tyres

Post by ubuntu1 Sat Apr 13, 2013 6:50 am

Tyre pressures in a motorhome are all a bit of a mystery. Most pressures quoted are the maximum tyre pressures and they are not usually the best pressures for the van. 60 to 65 seems to be a good working pressure but you have to monitor the ride quality and tyre wear to find out what works for you. I would start with 65psi front and 60 psi rear and see how it performs.

The door pillar sticker on my Symphony says 43 all round but using the Tyresafe chart (in the factsheets section) after going to weighbridge, I run at 45 front and 48 rear.

Symbol Tyre Pressures Empty Symbol tyre pressures

To calculate the correct tyre pressures to use you need to take into account the tyres fitted to the vehicle and the axle loading weights. For the low down on how to work this out go here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I weighed my Symbol and contacted tyre manufacture and ended up with 47psi at the front and 43 back. So I set them at 50 and 45 respectively. It goes to show that there are more ways to get tyre pressures than there are to skin a cat (whatever that means) Are they all correct or does it not matter that much, give or take a psi or 2.

That's the one that is in the factsheet section that I was referring to.

In the Peugeot book of words for my van it says 62 psi front and 65 psi rear. That's what I run them at.

Hi , my handbook says 44 all round.
Tyres are only rated up to 65psi

i like 44 as its a better ride, and it may help to wear the tyres out.!!

Some are saying 44 ish and others 65 ish. The "normal" Symphony is built on the 270 chassis I believe but some, mine included, were built on the 320 chassis. I wonder if that is the difference scratch head
I'll re-check my book when I go out to the van later.

My tyres wear out fast enough, without any help thanks smile!

Symbol Tyre Pressures Empty problems with tyre pressure too

Post by Jane C Tue Sep 03, 2013 12:41 pm

check what it actually says on the tyres - its in tiny writing so easy to miss. On my symbol, on the door it says 5 bar - this is too high as it all depends on the actual tyres you are using and if too high a pressure, the value can blow (just happened to me; luckily I was parked up). Had to get AA out. It is a minefield but there are good guides out there.

Good luck
