Replacing radio in Boxer
Good morning. I cannot get on with the fitted Blaupunkt/Fiat Ducato radio in our 2003 Symbol. My wife cannot turn it on or change the volume and then it goes off after 20 minutes. So I was going to get a cheap, easy to operate, replacement. Lidl have one next Monday but like most (all?) new radios it has a euro din connector and the BP has 3 separate plugs. I know there are adaptor harnesses to convert one to t'other but has anyone done that? Especially as the adaptor leads I have seen only have 2 sockets. (I am working on attaching a photo!)

Yes - you can get short adaptor harnesses to connect pretty much any radio to any vehicle. Just call one of the car audio places and explain what you need. I suggest that you ~don't~ go into Halfords - they will have (or will be able to get) what you need, but their prices have always seemed astronomical compared to dedicated car audio shops...
BTW, I learned the hard way that cheap car radios are generally not very reliable in the long term! I always go for a base model from a manufacturer I've heard of.

Thanks mojo. I would normally do the same but the audio quality in the cab is awful so any radio will match that and if it lasts a year for £30 so be it.....

Slightly OS, I have got the pic onto Photobucket but cannot copy it in IMG format. In fact I cannot even get the dropdown menu with it in. I can do this:

Oops, that seems to work, sorry.

Does this work?
Can't help with the exact name of the adaptor - the one on mine is similar (called a quadlock because there are 4 plugs) but not the same. But if it's an original Boxer fitted radio then the radio shop guys will know immediately (if they are any good at their job!)

That's it!
I guessed swapping radios was straight forward, I knew someone had already done it. When I fitted my last radio it had red and black wires and a speaker that fitted in the dash or you made a bracket up to fit it underneath. In fact I once fitted a Phillips car/portable that slid into a metal sleeve and picked the connections up on pins in the back. Fitted that in a Bond 3 wheeler. Totally inaudible with the engine running.

I remember those, I used to sell them when I worked for Halfords.

Thanks for your comments mojo. I have worked out that the 3rd plug, blue, green and yellow is for telephone and data? Anyway looks like only the black and white plugs are needed. I see what you mean about Halfords prices.
