Post by scotburn Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:59 pm

Hi,
Have 96 Duetto on Ford Transit, travelling through Spain, Portugal and now France. Few weeks ago noticed the water pump would come on for a few seconds every 2/3 minutes, then underneath body at rear water dripping, now carpet inside is wet, under stove. Suspect hose problem, but don't know where to start to look, can anyone help me please?

Water leak in duetto Empty pump

The pump coming on every few minutes indicates a water leak, its the pump re-pressurising the system. Water leaks are very difficult to track and trace. Its going to be a difficult job but you need to find out where its coming from.

Hi

I had this problem on my Executive. Looked at the water pump and one of the plastic connectors (Hot and Cold) had cracked. Available from Ebay, but you could bypass it or refrain from using it until you get home.

If you haven't all ready, I'd have a look at the pump and the area around it as the charger also sits in the same compartment and you don't want that sitting in a puddle of water.

If you haven't done it already. Under the cooker take off the back panel, there is a cutaway where the charger is. The panel folds up to ease getting it out. Then you can see the pump and filter and possibly feel where the water is coming from. Pipes go up the back to the sink and also across the back doors to the washroom. If you can't fix it right away switch the pump off when not in use. You will need to put it back on to flush the toilet
Good Luck

My Duetto had such a problem when I bought it. It was a leak from the water heater that had been frost damaged (I tracked down and spoke to previous owner) and that had to be replaced. The big problem though was that water had been between the van floors and the side of the van around the carver heater rusted from the inside out and required a major body work repair. This was done very professionally by a specialist firm near Bawtry and was paid for by Brownhills.

Water leak in duetto Empty water leak

Post by scotburn Wed Mar 27, 2013 7:44 pm

thanks for all your suggestions and help, took panel off to get at pump, leak was coming down wheel arch, so must be coming from taps on sink. Have bypassed hot water hose as probably the culprit, able to use cold water hose, used some 1/2" poly fittings, may do the job until get back to UK, only using pump when needed. Does anyone know how to get at the back of the taps in the sink?
Cheers

Hi Phil.

Don't know what type of sink you have in your Duetto. But in the Exec. there are 4 screws through the top, one in each corner of the sink. If you unscrew these there is enough slack on the water pipes to lift up the sink and turn it back to access the tap connections. Careful refixing the rubber sink to worksurface gasket when you put the sink back as the edges of the sink are very sharp.

Good Luck. Whisky. champagne

The type of tap depends on the model of Duetto. Several people have modified the wood panel behind the sink, inside the back door, to make a recess for storage and that exposes the back of the sink. I'm not sure whether the whole panel was removed for cutting or whether it was done in situ (and our Duetto is long gone). If you can't remove the back panel and don't have the type of tap mentioned in the previous post (in newer Duettos) then I think you will have to remove the sink back panel.

Water leak in duetto Empty Water leak fixed!

Post by scotburn Wed May 08, 2013 1:01 pm

Hi all
thanks for your help, have fixed the water leak. Found it was clamp on hot water hose into back of the tap which had worked loose, got to it by removing the top external air vent for fridge, able to get hand/arm in (after burning arm on exhaust flue of fridge which was running on gas!). The hw tap connector was at about 45 deg angle (compared to cold water straight down), made bit more difficult to get at but all good now.

Cheers
