Yo Dave
I have parked with my van in the Normanton car park about two years ago (no height barriers).
A bit of info on this link.

Re: Car park Info
Hi there,
The sailing facility on the north side of Rutland Water has a field for camping right alongside the lake. There are no facilities.
Check at the Reception for costs and availability.
There is also a huge car park where you have to pay. I wouldn't mind wild camping there at this time of the year.
If you get into the camping field I suggest that you hang a quick left when you enter the gate so that you keep to more or less level ground.
Love the place. When it gets a bit warmer (and hopefully drier) we will be there for a sailing weekend.
Enjoy.
Best regards,
