Hi Peter,
I don't think people on here are unfriendly, it seems to me to more of a community for solving problems than for socialising online.
You may find an Autosleeper Facebook group would suit you better.
I like the idea of just driving off and "wild camping" for a week, but the wife isn't so keen and worries that someone will get us "moved on". Well so what if they do, I can just move on then.
We tend to go to specific events (usually pagan themed), where she can do her thing and I can have some peace and quiet to read. It doesn't always work out so well, the last event had virtually non stop shamanic drumming, which gave me a headache.
Anyway, I'm sure you will find some like minded souls somewhere along they way, and then your journeys will take off a bit more.
I'm sorry to hear that you lost your wife. It must be difficult to move forward, when you have always been part of a couple.
I myself was not a very sociable person before I met my wife. My only passions were motorcycling (usually very fast) and dancing. I eventually found my wife at dancing, and we just clicked. The camping came about through a series of books my wife read, called "The Magus of Stonewylde". Fans of the book formed a Facebook group, then had a meet, which evolved into a camp that is the springboard of our year now with over a hundred campers, in all sorts of accommodation from small two man tents to massive converted horseboxes. We then meet up with different friends throughout the year at these other pagany type things. We went to Fantasy Forest this year and that was brilliant.
When we met, my wife had no interest in camping at all. But she started it off by getting a tent so she could spend time with her new found friends around the campfire. Then I went along and we got a small camper, a Mazda Bongo, then the Montana, now a Clubman.
So keep on looking, I'm sure you will find a group of people you will enjoy catching up with throughout the year, as well as online. Try reading the book I mentioned (though there are 6 books in all - I stopped after the 3rd). If the book resonates with you then perhaps you may like to come along to our meet up, though it is not camping in structured rows, it is a bit more random.

Peter, I don’t know why you think Forum members are unfriendly but if you want to meet new people, have you checked out the AS Owners Club and their events?

It probably wasn't a shortage of SWB Transits per se, but if they needed double sliding doors that was probably the problem. Funnily enough they seem easy to get from Ford now in the Transit Custom range.

From what I remember the rear screen washer is a weird little thing. Mine never worked properly.
