Welcome to the forum. It is normal (as per request at the top of the page ) when you join to do an introduction, please do that
We now have about 4 or 5 Montanas' on the forum (they are quite rare) including one that cant be more than a few miles from you.
I have no doubt at least one owner will post you some info

Can I ask why you want to change from a Nuevo to a Montana, can't be that much smaller and I wouldn't think you'd get better fuel consumption being petrol. Just curious.

I have a 2.3 diesel so this is not first hand but my friend had a petrol mini bus on the Mercedes W638 Vito which he said did around 21- 24 mpg. sorry that's about as close as I can get.

I know you're only being helpful, but this thread is two and a half years old! I guess their friends might ~still~ be looking at the Montana, but it seems a bit unlikely...

Re: auto sleeper montana fuel consumption
Hi there,
I have a Montana Hi-Top, petrol with auto transmission. At worst I have measured 18mpg, using as a runabout at home. The best I have seen is 27mpg, on a steady long run at about 50mph. At 60-65mph fuel consumption drops back to 22-23mpg.
I got our camper quite cheap tho and don't mind the fuel consumption as my annual mileage is quite low. I love the van though. It is easy to drive, being an automatic, and has ample room for two. Only drawback is that the beds are not very comfortable unless you use a thick air mattress, but this ads time and hassle putting the beds up and down, and I suffer with back pain anyway so am more sensitive than others may be.

Re: auto sleeper montana fuel consumption
Hi Peter - welcome to the forum. This thread is quite old and probably not really quite the right subject - you are asking more generally about the Montana, rather than just MPG?
The Montana is a relatively rare A/S conversion, so you may have to wait a while to get responses.
It's probably best to start a new thread, and don't forget to say what engine and what transmission you have - for example the MPG is likely to be significantly lower if it has an auto transmission!

You weren't being told off - so it's Ok - you can come out of the corner and take the Dunce's cap off again if you want.
I was just suggesting that - as with all forums - it's generally better to start a new thread that is specific to your question, rather than tacking your question onto an old thread which is not quite the right subject.
It's a well known fact that most conventional auto boxes are less efficient than manual ones (the exception being dual-clutch autos, which are in effect robot-operated manual boxes). This is because power is converted into heat and thus wasted in the torque converter, which a manual box does not have.
So I'm sorry to have to repeat it but, all other things being equal, an auto box will cost more in fuel than a manual box!

Ok, so you're after an Owner's Manual?
Hopefully someone with a Montana will comment soon, though if you start a thread with the title "Montana Owner's Manual Wanted" you might get a reply quicker?
But please don't expect too much - the Owner's Manuals from that era were disappointing, to say the least. A few years ago I owned an A/S conversion (not a Montana) dating from 1999, and almost everything in the manual was out of date and not relevant to the model I had. The problem is that A/S change the appliances they fit frequently, but only updated the manual infrequently! Thankfully they are better in more recent vans.
It may also be worth contacting A/S themselves. They might still have the Owner's Manual for the Montana on file somewhere. Probably not, but still worth a try, maybe?

Re: auto sleeper montana fuel consumption
I tried to log in to the ASOC web site to see if they had a manual but couldn't get in for some reason. If they have it would mean joining the club but it would get you a copy.
Perhaps one of the other ASOC Members would have a look for you

I've checked for you Roli and the club doesn't have a Montana manual and it's also not on the list they have of manuals held at AS.
As for not getting into ASOC website, have you received the new password?

Re: auto sleeper montana fuel consumption
I no longer have my Montana, having moved on to a Clubman, of the same vintage.
Fuel consumption wise I averaged about 25 mpg, which is significantly better than I get from the Clubman.
I do know that only 37 Montana's were ever built, as a result of a shortage of short wheelbase Transits. Some were pop tops, but most were hard top. I don't know how many were manual and how many were auto's.
Although the Clubman is a bigger beast, with more space and more storage, it is much harder work to load and unload, only having the one small side door. I miss the "van" element, which was useful for taking large items from one place to another, and the ability to open both sides and the back was brilliant in hot weather.
If you dont need to change for a bigger van with more storage, then I'd keep the Montana. I loved it, but we were just falling over stuff due to lack of storage.
