Snow Chains £19.99 At Lidl
Went into Lidl today and they have a pair of snow chains for £19.99 on their offers board and will be available to buy from 26/11/2012 (I think)
Might be of interest to others, especially if the forecasts of bad weather being predicted are true!

Their leaflet shows that different sizes will be available.
70,80,90 & 100.
Anybody any idea what wheel/tyre sizes these relate to?

To see which snow chains are suitable for your car, you need to identify your tyre size. Your tyre size is displayed on the tyre wall and looks like the example below:
185 70 R14
Tyre width: 185
Tyre profile: 70
Rim size: 14
So it would appear to be the tyre profile number that corresponds to the 70,80,90 & 100 they refer to

Hi there,
Having lived in the Scottish Highlands for many years I can tell you four things about snow-chains:
1) Snow-chains can be absolute beggars to fit.
2) Snow-chains WILL become a rusted lump of steel within weeks if they are not washed and dried after use!
3) Snow-chains are brilliant in snow; but remember to drive slowly!
4) Snow-chains MUST be removed as soon as possible when you hit a clear road! Failure to remove the snow-chains can result in severe damage to both the chains AND the tyres within a mile or so.
Here's hoping that you never need to fit them.
Best regards,

The size is certainly nothing to do with profile.
Derek Uzzell on O&AL says that the four sizes offered will all be unsuitable for m/home wheels/tyres.
Not surprised, the volume is in the car market.

Re. Snow Chains £19.99 at Lidl
Just been to Lidl's to check out these snow chains and the sizes stated in their ad covers a range of tyre sizes. Our Symphony has 195/70/15 tyres so Lidl size 90 will fit. The chains also comply to ONORM V5117 which is suitable for goods vehicles up to 3.5 ton.
