Hi-Top Toilet Window Leaking
Here's hoping someone may be able to help:
The hi-top fixed toilet window on my Harmony (opaque glass) is leaking rainwater into the enclosure.
I have determined that the seal which the glass sits in is the culprit. It has hardened over the years.
This type of window is fitted to many hi-top variants.
The seal is black 'T' shaped with a 'long' leg which is ribbed.
The 'T' part sits against the glass.
I have managed to pull an inch out (it's mastiked in as well) to see if I can find a replacement.
A/S are unable to supply it.
On the glass it is etched "Vehicle & Marine Windows 0121-772-6307"
I have googled that and found them on Streetview, although the premises look empty.
No such number when telephoning!!
I have also checked the usual suspect seal manufacturers to no avail.
As a last resort I am sure sealing with with mastick will do the trick, but a new rubber seal would be preferable.
Here's hoping.

Have you taken a look at all of the seal sections that Woolies can supply? They do a really big range (or at least did last time I dealt with them).
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Also check with AS what type of mastic they recommend - on my hi-top windows they used a butyl rubber mastic which stays flexible (allowing for roof flex) and stays soft enough that you can get the window out again if necessary, whereas if you use Sikaflex you probably won't ever be able to!

Thanks mojo....had a look, no luck with woolies though.
It's not the window that's the problem, it's the seal that seals against the glass.
I know what you mean with regard to Sikaflex!!

Had a similar leak on "Petal".
AS stripped it out and re-fitted it with copious amounts of sealant back in August and so far we have had no recurrence of the problem.
Best regards,
Ian

Hi Ian
When you say 'stripped it out" do you mean the complete window (frame), or did they take just the glass out?
My problem is not with the frame leaking, it's leaking through the seal that's against the glass.

WOW!
Sorry about that - we were moving south and I missed the Post.
I didn't witness the work but as far as I could make out, because the leak was between the glass and the seal around the glass rather than the frame and the hi-top bit, they removed the glass from the rubber strip, cleaned everything out and reinstalled it with loads of silicone mastic. (The place stunk of silicone for days afterwards!)
Apparently it was necessary to do it this way because "they" (?) aren't making the windows any more so the bespoke seals are no longer available.
All I can say is that it worked as we haven't had a drop of water leak in since the repair.
Again, please accept my apologies for not replying.
Best regards,
Ian

May I join on the side of this conversation. Re Sikaflex - great stuff - flexible seal - good grip etc - only drawback I know is it costs a bomb.
If you want the same characterstics try GEOCELL WORKS I have used it for years on kit cars, van conversions and caravans. I started using it when my local Emporium and boat chandlery started stocking it. (Macsalvors for those in Cornwall) It costs less than half the price of Sikaflex!

Thanks Ian for that......no need to feel guilty!!!!! (oh you aren't!)
I have come to the conclusion that is the way to go. Will wait until the weather warms a bit. Easy enough to do methinks.
Tried all the seal suppliers on the internet Frank.......nothing remotely like this seal. Why did they use a bespoke seal I wonder.
Shame that the manufactures are no longer trading. Looks like I just missed them as their accounts show that they trading up to October this year!
Anyway, thanks to all................sikaflex on order!

Funny you should mention that.
Bought a tube off e..y two weeks ago.
Although I only gave it one go, it certainly slowed the leak down somewhat.
As I needed to use the 'van', I taped over the rubber with black insulating tape as a stop gap and the leak has now practically stopped.
Having said that, so has the rain!!
Anyway, have just received a cartridge of black CT1, so when we have a warmer day I will attack it in earnest.
I intend going down the route that Dutto had on his window by AS.
Thanks for your interest and will let you know when it's job done.

Re: Hi-Top Toilet Window Leaking
Sorry to hear about your failed MOT PB, look forward to chapter and verse. By the way, for anyone else following this thread it's 'Captain Tolley' not Dr.
I've used it on all the plastic gutter screw threads to great effect, especially over the windscreen.
I recently removed the upper blinds and flyscreens over the hi-top windows, to quieten a rattle and replace a mouldy flyscreen- when the whole assembly came out what was exposed was not a pretty sight. Rusty screws, soft wood framing and a big gap where I presume the insulation has dropped or shrunk ! Still the ol' girl is nearly 15 years old....... we don't sleep in her, just day trips (it's a long story).
On the upside, with the blinds and flyscreens removed you can hear a pin drop even on the motorway, OK, slight exaggeration but you get the idea.
