Solar panels yes or no.
Hi all. Have just acquired our first real camper VW t4 trident auto-sleeper and have been advised that solar panels would be a good idea as we intend doing some wild camping both here and abroad. If anyone has had this done and has any adivce on these sytems it would help .
Am looking at a 63w, 12v fitted system and would appreciate any advice as to whether this is practical, worth having or a waste of time and money have been quoted £399 fitted with 2 year guarantee. Thanks

Re: Solar panels yes or no.
I have a 65w solar panel on my van and it keeps both batteries topped up when not in use and provides adequate power in the summer when not on mains.
I suggest you enter "solar" in the search box above and you will find a lot of discussion and answers to questions.

Hi Doubleh,
We have used Solar Panels for about 20 yrs (VERY expensive then) and wouldn’t be without
I have always fitted my own, so am not up on fitting costs etc !!
Our 110 watt Panel keeps the 2 leisure batteries well topped up for our needs …. normally two nights ‘free’ camping max at a time (we have ‘itchy feet’ by then )
Hope this helps and good luck
Brian

Re: Solar panels yes or no.
Agree totally would not be without mine.
Cost seems a bit steep judging by last weeks posts, so shop around a bit more!
It won't run your fridge on 12V though ( that is when you get it fixed )

80w of panels on the Mh roof & 4kw on the bungalow roof
ONE of the best mods I did on the AS, batteries ALWAYS well charged, give 'em a hammering at night, & they get topped up next day
