Leisure battery removal Empty Leisure battery removal

Post by John Rom Mon Oct 01, 2012 9:05 pm

Following a previous post I followed advice and tested the battery under load, to find a severe voltage drop with just three strip lights on. However, when trying to remove the battery from under the driver's seat I find there is insuffient space to wiggle the battery out. Is it really necessary to remove the drivers seat from its frame to gain enough headroom to remove a battery?? If anyone has experience of a shorcut not clear to me I would like to hear!

Thanks

In short yes ! Its not that big a job, if you think thats bad you want to look at a Mk7 Tranny there are two batteries inder the seat and they are larger than the Boxers hab battery

There is a way round it that was suggested by AS a few years ago. On the seat slides there are two impressions in the steel, if these are ground off the seat will slide further forward.
This applied to Boxers only and not Fords, VWs and I dont know about the X/250s as they hadnt been thought of at the time

I've swapped the battery (twice) on my '95 Symphony without removing the seat. I think it's an 85ah but I've never measured its physical dimensions. I do have to slide the seat as far forward as it will go, which means dropping the front as low as it will go to get the extra inches.
