How to remove swingwall in bathroom
Morning folks
We have a 2009 Broadway EK & yesterday discovered we have a water leak. I’m assuming it’s coming from under the shower/bathroom floor and I need to get this repaired as a matter of urgency. We have the swinging wall bathroom and that is the first thing that needs to be removed but I’m not sure how to about it. I’m ok removing the toilet (I think) but will come back for advice on that if needs be.
If anyone has done this I would be very grateful for tips and/or advice
Many thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,
Just a wee heads-up on your bathroom leak, on our Bourton swing wall (which I believe is probably similar to yours) just make sure that the problem is not simply the drain hose that goes from the basin down to the waste tank has become disconnected at the rear of the basin inside the wall. This happened to us and its just a matter of removing the square panel at the rear of the wall and reconnecting the hose, although you may already have checked this.
Dave.

Re: How to remove swingwall in bathroom
On my Bourton one of the scores of faults that came with it from the factory was the disgusting, terrible quality of the flexible hoses that connect the tap to the habitation plumbing. As a retired plumber / gas man I have never come across such bad hoses as were originally fitted. The ends which connect to the habtiation supplies were oval whereas they should be circular. They should make a waterproof joint via the rubber 'O' ring, but being oval stood no chance of ever being leakproof. I cannot imagine the lengths that A/S had to go to, to source such disgusting connectors.
Simply go to any plumbers merchant and buy some tap 'tails' as they are called, remove the square panel at the back of the swing wall and change the tails. It's easy if you know how, but if you haven't done it before you will probably need to look at a youtube to see how.

I digress but the man that invented the swing wall shower should be knighted. Shame the people that build them use such rubbish fittings. Sorry cant help on removing one.

Re: How to remove swingwall in bathroom
I’m not sure if this will help but when we experienced a similar leak in our 2011 Nuevo i.e. water leak coming via the bathroom door under the shower tray, it turned out to be at the junction of T pieces etc under the toilet. I assume the push fittings under the square cover on the shower side of the swing wall have been checked.
Hope this helps.

Others who shall be nameless should be on the receiving end of a knight's lance.

Re: How to remove swingwall in bathroom
Thank you all for your very helpful replies. I’m now awaiting a call back from Autosleeper but in the meantime I’ve started to remove the toilet having checked the pipes to the sink via the inspection panel and the back of the shower moulding which incidentally seems to be made of the cheapest and most fragile plastic known to man.

Re: How to remove swingwall in bathroom
Unfortunately they do have to use the lightest materials, due to wanting to make most motorhomes under 3500kg, when legislation makes them use ?2500kg base vehicles. The older models could be made of much thicker plywood, real tree wood and heavier upholstery because they weren't loaded down with DPFs and all the other emission control gubbins. Years ago I was proposing a new way of wiring caravans to a manufacturer and they said what they really want is aluminium wire because of the weight of copper and the increase in customer demands for more electrical equipment. I told them you can't use aluminium wire because it will just corrode and quickly become ineffective.

Re: How to remove swingwall in bathroom
I had a similar problem with a major water leak which I just could not find under the shower floor, I took it to a dealer who found it but informed me that he couldn't detach the shower room as he knew it would break from past experience so he had to do it 'Old School', whatever that meant.Puddlejumper wrote:Morning folks

It turned out to be rodent damage to the pipe and it cost me an eye-watering £700 including an MOT to be fair.

Sorted
Just to wrap this one up, after removing the toilet the access to all the joints for the two basins and shower was easy. Two of the four splitters had slight leaks. I replaced them all with better quality ones and the leaks are now sorted. I still don’t know how to remove the swing wall but at least everything is now dried out and leak free.
Many thanks to everyone to gave advice and guided me in the right direction.
