Kingham window surrounds
It’s a 2018 model and the carpet surrounding the windows, about 2 inches wide, is coming unstuck in places. Does anyone have any advice on which adhesive to use and how to apply it without messing up the rest of the fabric.
Thanks
Thanks

You need a high temperature adhesive otherwise the heat through the windows will soon unstick it again. You can get it in spray form but you need to protect the windows and blinds. If you can get a staple gun onto the edge that will help it from lifting again.

Thanks Paul. Previous attempts were not with high temperature adhesive and you are absolutely correct. Have ordered high temperature adhesive. Have a staple gun but had visions of glass shattering!

I opted against the use of a spray contact adhesive as the limited access makes it difficult to hold the can at the right distance and angle.
Instead I used 3M double sided tape rated for external use with a wide temperature spec.

Ours appear to be loose but they were never stuck just tacked

That was also my approach and it has worked so far (years)Kemerton-bath wrote:Instead I used 3M double sided tape rated for external use with a wide temperature spec.

I see on ours that the factory is stapling them on now, on our previous van they were stuck on and never came off in 7 years of use.

Any chance of a photo of the staples, I am going to have to do mine, fed up of re-sticking them every year even with the high temp adhesive though that does seem to last longer. I had to re-stick the frame of the blinds on the nearside rear door, that was a right pain to get to because AS use a gel like adhesive to stick the back material covered panel in place as well as all the screws, there are two horizontal lines of the gel one above and one below the window. The only plus is that you can reuse the sticky gel when putting the panel back. It also provided a good opportunity to add more insulation to the inadequate amount AS had fitted. I have ordered some stainless steel staples, would like to see where AS have actually fitted them so I can do the same.timsurf2021 wrote:I see on ours that the factory is stapling them on now, on our previous van they were stuck on and never came off in 7 years of use.

It looks like the staples have been put in before the glass was installed, quite possible with a smallish staple gun to do it from the inside.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Thanks Tim, they don't stand out too much, I can get my staple gun in the gap OK, my staples will have to go at right angles to the glass and not 45 degrees like yours but I'm convinced it will do the trick.

On second thoughts, must have been a brain fade, it would have to done from the inside before the side trim panels were installed as the glass is fitted by peugeot or fiat

A pedantic technicality perhaps, but it was my understanding that AS remove the standard Sevel glass to apply the athermic coating and then refit the windows. This was what I was told when our dealer replaced a broken rear door window for me. The standard Peugeot windows have a different tint. It doesn't really make any difference to this thread but might explain the "excess adhesive blockages" reported in the earlier type sliding side window drains, since the Sevel factory process would probably not be so hit & miss.

I was told that Auto-Glass did the tint as A/S, looking at our opening windows it defiantly looks like a film.

The adhesive arrived today but after reading all the cautions on the can including‘suspected of causing cancer ‘ I went down the stapler route. Plenty of room away from glass, though a bit nervous for first one. Stapling the top bits required a bit of contorting. Hoping this will fix it

Re: Kingham window surrounds
I took my van to the AS service centre for a hab check and they fixed the carpet surrounding the windows by stapling. They didn't dismantle anything or remove glass, just stapled.
It is quite easy to see that it has been stapled though, double sided tape has a better finish. The 3M double sided tape has held up.
