Topaz Rusty Roof
HI,
I don't own an Autosleeper yet, I'm looking for one to buy.
I looked at one at the weekend, a Topaz, which had a one foot long patch of rust underneath the plastic trim that is fitted between the van body and the high top.
The rust was quite bad, not just surface rust but was bubbling away quite nicely so I'm assuming it had made it's way into the metal.
From the reading I've done if it has rusted badly it's not going to be a simple DIY repair, is this the case.
When I do get an Autosleeper is it worth trying to put waxoyl behind the this plastic trim to try and prevent this happening or would I be wasting my time ?
Many thanks,
Andy

Re: Topaz Rusty Roof
That's a correct assumption. Fixing it would be difficult and expensive, so leave that one for someone else.
I don't *think* you will find it at all easy to get waxoyl in there, and it's questionable whether it would do any good. It won't do any harm, but if significant rust were on the way, it would probably be showing on a van that's likely to be 20 years old already. I hate to say it, but the damage is likely to have been done at the factory when the hardtop was installed - either careless handling, or failure to use rustproof treatment on the cut edges of the roof.
