Symphony - changing loudspeakers
Is just changing the OEM speakers, without changing the head unit, a useful upgrade?

Re: Symphony - changing loudspeakers
I replaced the 2 in the dash, plus fitted 2 extra half way down, under the lockers for 4 x high power & quality base/treble units, better, but not
gob-smackingly so, as the dash doesn't offer much in tha way of an enclosure, neither does the underside of the cupboards, but I still think it
was worth doing.

Thanks. I like your signature; my sentiments exactly!
What make and size of speakers did you use?

Does the whole dash have to come off to replace the dash speakers? What size are the speakers?

Ooopps, sorry I didn't get back on this one, missed it somehow.
I fitted 4 x identical 4" 50w units, don't know the make, but they're usually good if the magnets are the same dia of the cones
As Frank states, the originals are eliptical, but by re-positioning the replacements, 3 of the 4 holes in the speaker frame can be used with self
tappers into the dash, there is a double-skin so no screws will spoil the dash on the outside.
The replacement units will leave a 'gap' in places of the speaker openings, but it makes no difference as the whole back is open anyway,
( Ideally, speakers usually want to be fully enclosed, unless ported ) & as I said earlier, not perfect, but noticably better.
Excuse the slight 'techie' jargon, its the hi-fi anorack side of me coming out

radio speakers
In my A/S Symbol I have two extension speakers fitted to the high top roof, (inside, of course) which have never worked since we bought the van 10 years ago. Does anyone know if they screw on, press on or heaven knows what! I'm not sure if they were fitted at A/S and there is no obvious visual way of getting inside them. I do not want to use excessive force trying to unscrew the casing so as not to "balls" things up completely.

I'm fairly sure AS tried wherever possible to flush mount their speakers (mine are original and flush mounted at the rear of the roof) so if in "pods" yours have probably been added later.
If you post up a photo someone may recognise the product. I'd hazard a guess at clip-on grilles on the front which cover the fixing screws, but that's just a wild guess...

Ta,
Shantyman
Usually, if there is no obvious method of speaker, grill or surround removal, then the grill itself is a tight, push-pit into the surround, this is how mine are.
You will need a very small watchmaker type screwdriver or small 'pick', go to the edge of the grill & lever the grill down, once off, you should see the
4 (usually) fixing screws.
Replacemend can be slightly awkward, carefully place the grill in one side of its groove, then 'feed' it round & lastly you may need to tease the last
bit in with the tool
