My newly aquired Duetto Empty My newly aquired Duetto

Hello everyone in Auto-Sleepers land,

It's been a while since my last post, so here's the latest update.

What has been done, you may ask. Well, the underside welding for starters. When collected, I was told that there some corrosion on the rear cross member. However, the first MOT revealed more than just that. The list ran to two pages! My local welder, who I've used before, quoted £3000 and he would overhaul the braking system at the same time. New rear wheel cylinders, new front calipers and various other bits later, one almost ready van to hit the road.

Four new tires, 2 new batteries, new spare wheel carrier and handle, new windscreen fluid reservoir and it's now ready for the second MOT which it passed. I'm collecting it this afternoon.

Next on the slowly dwindling list of things to do is an appliance check/overhaul/replacement and a habitation certificate.

Check back for more updates.

Good to hear you're making progress.  Bet you can't wait to get it on the road and get a run out in it..

Having read your follow up with getting your Duetto back on the road it sounds like you’re certainly determined to see it through to the end.
I had a couple of years of use with ours after the repairs before the rust issues started to show again. The people that did the original repairs did warn me that there were problems in the area around the n/s rear spring hanger under the shower. I couldn’t justify the cost of removing the shower tray and repairs plus the mileage was stacking up. It was a hard decision to call it quits.
Talking to my friend that welds for a car restoration garage he said a lot of DIY rust proofing fails due to poor preparation. He has shown me rust proofing over flaky rust or damp.I am going to have the Rienza professionally rust proofed by a company he recommends at the end of this summer with the intention that it will hold back the rust for more travels in our retirement.
