My newly acquired Duetto
Hello everyone in Auto Sleeper land. First off, many thanks for the advise and links re missing wheel lock key. I followed all of the links and made numerous telephone calls, but to no avail. In the end, I contacted a well known tyre retailer who said, for an additional fee, they come to my place, remove the wheel locks, replace four tyres and refit new locks. Today, I receive a call from them to say that due to unavailability of new locks, they have cancelled the job and will refund the cost in due course.
This morning I decided to check the oil and water, add some power steering fluid and take photos of the batteries so that I can get new ones. Does anyone think I could get the bonnet up? Not a chance! I spent 20 minutes looking for the release toggle under the bonnet, and checked the manual. Still no luck! Does anyone have any ideas?
I managed to get rid of all of the stuff left by the last owner and washed the almost full set of crockery. I found replacements on ebay, result.
I've ordered new push catches from ebay and replaced the brass knob on the end cupboard, only the screw wasn't long enough. Have to source a longer one.
I've bought a new gas cylinder and once I've given the gas locker a good clean, I'll be installing it. Until all of the appliances are checked, it will remain off.
All in all, this Duetto is putting up a fight.
Thanks for reading this tale of woe, more to follow.

Re: My newly acquired Duetto
Got a company car, yonks ago, Ford Focus estate. When it arrived, guy said, it has no fuel, get some now. Went to nearby petrol station, opened fuel filler, big RED label warning DIESEL only!
Was 99.999% certain it was petrol but to be safe, and brand new car, decided to open the bonnet and check it out.
Couldn't find any bonnet release anywhere, just like you SS! Resorted to the manual, this at a busy petrol station. You go to the Ford badge on the bonnet, it swivels if you twist it, you put the ignition key in and unlock the bonnet!!!!!
BTW it WAS petrol!!
Know this won't help re Duetto, just trying to make you feel better!!!
So, if I can, perhaps, help, what is the make/model of the van's base vehicle??

Opinion only: you don't really need new locks. It may have been a "thing" a few years back to nick people's expensive alloys, but alloys are so common now that it almost never happens these days. If it were mine, I would get four new bolts/nuts, call them in to get the old ones off and just do without!

Sure the bad guys have a set of these, so, actually, most of us don't really have locking wheel nuts.........

I vaguely recall with our 2007 Duetto that there was a key aperture somewhere on the bonnet, probably near the badge.
Ford didn't hide it, it's just my memory that's fading, so it should be obvious if you look

A late '90s Transit should be pretty unsophisticated. Perhaps the chassis cab version was different, but on the panel vans it was just a lever in the driver's footwell.

Wonder if that's the same as my Focus as above?? See if the Ford badge can be turned......Bigt99 wrote:I vaguely recall with our 2007 Duetto that there was a key aperture somewhere on the bonnet, probably near the badge.

I now remember - a drink at lunchtime works wonders- that on our 2007 Duetto the keyhole was above the badge in the grille,
