AS Rimini 96 cambelt kit search
Hi all, been unused for years on sorn, finally MOT'd and taxed, last cambelt was in 2011, only done 20+k.
Do I just ditch the van or run until belt death?
Also, how old might a "new" belt be (if i can find one), it may have been on a shelf for 10 years etc.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

I suspect that there are several effects - one being wear due to physical engine rotations, another due to heat-cycling, and another the breakdown of the rubber due to ageing. Having the engine sat with the belt in one place for long periods of time is probably worst-case for the latter.
If it were mine, I would change it, but... it's probably absolutely fine. It's really down to whether you want to gamble on it or not.
Availability: not sure whether they were still producing the ancient 1721cc petrol engine in '96. If that's what you have then parts are likely to be more difficult (as is the way with Renault, in my experience). If you have the diesel, things seem to be easier.

Have you tried these people, they have some cambelts depending on what CC yours is...

Change the belt and water pump, all in a kit by Gates, only use Gates belts.
Circa £350 then no risk of belt failure which, in your van case may well make it a financial write off for the engine rebuild

Thanks all, it's a 2165cc and Pauls link appears to have them. Then, of course, I'd have to find someone to fit it. In 2011 when it was changed before I remember there was some problem due to various tooth counts. The garage, now closed, had to have a couple of deliveries to get the correct count. Decisions decisions :)
