Re: Symbol Water Sender Unit
An update on my non-functioning water guage.
On my recent trip the guage did make some attemt at working but not properly so today being a fine day I resolved to tackle the problem.
I removed the fresh water tank and then removed the sender unit from the tank.

This is a close up showing the fault - there is verdigris giving a poor connexion at the terminal

The repaired unit back into the tank

So the problem was a poor connexion between the sender rods and the printed circuit board caused no doubt by the damp atmosphere in which the unit lives. I removed the printed board and cleaned up the connexion places using an old toothbrush. I then tested the unit by connecting the cable up to the van and then dipping the rods into a bucket of water. I varied the depth I placed the rods to see that all indications worked ok. Then the sender unit was put back into the tank and sealed liberally with silicone sealer. Tomorrow, after the silicone has set I shall replace the tank.
All in all a success but I suspect that this may become an annual task.
