Symbol Plus tambour door Empty Symbol Plus tambour door

Post by merv Thu Aug 31, 2023 3:59 pm

Just had a couple of days away to check all systems on new-to-us Symbol Plus and the tambour door (curved) really sticks and is very awkward. It wasn't at first but after a couple of days it's a pain.
Does anyone with a similar door have a solution?

The Kemerton has tambour doors on the shower enclosure and despite having quite tight bends on the tracks they don't stick. I recommend you apply silicon spray to the tracks.

It's worth keeping a can onboard. I use it to free up the plastic latch mechanisms on the lockers when they stick.

Our 2019 Kemerton XL from new had a sliding shower door that didn't close freely, the lower metal black track had not been fitted properly, where one piece of track joined another there was a step that the sliding door had to overcome, perhaps more at the sides than the track bed itself, that's as much as I remember. At the time I wondered what would happen if I was stuck in the shower unable to open the sliding door. Roughly from memory, I unscrewed some of the track and used a Dremel type drill to improve the mating of the two sections of track. I certainly improved things though we then had another issue. I discovered a crack in the door which really needs the shower door to be replaced, it's £400 plus though I found a firm in Lancashire whose sliding shower door is half of that £400 plus price.

Ours sticks when the heating is on, the door must grow with the heat.

Thank you for your comments.
I have now used my silicon spray and it seems reasonable at the moment.
I also think the point about it being worse when the heating is on applies to ours.
There isn't a join in the bottom track that I can see but a couple of the tiny screw were not completely tight.

We have a Fairford plus with similar arrangement, its never stuck closed or half way but has stuck fully open, the very top of leading edge jammed in its rail - found that the "stop" was allowing the door to wedge itself  - the stop is held with at philips screw, slacked this and repositioned no issues since  - also lubricated with WD40 Silicone Spray - My new Goto Lubricant - its really good for the squeaks and rattles and seems to last for a long time.
