Sliding door halfway stop Empty Sliding door halfway stop

Post by FreelanderUK Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:27 am

On my WXL sliding door i have been using a couple of small sliding bolt end pieces screwed to the rail these have worked well but now have started to deform a little and if I forget to use the handle in the open position it,ake a rather loud clunk as the roller mechanism hets them ,

I have just bought one of these to try from eBay (offered £11.50 and they accepted) it sticks to the rail there is one the same design on Amazon for sale at 39.99 with excellent reviews ,

eBay item number 364380636674

That looks a lot better designed than the flip flop I shove into the bottom roller on ours !

Once the rain stops I shall remove the other one and fit this and let you know how it performs

As an alternative I fitted this stop halfway along, which is identical to the one used by the manufacturer to hold the sliding door at its limit.  Its very secure and effective, but as mentioned, if you forget to pull the handle you get an almighty clunk!    all confused    Available from UK Leisure Spares.

Not as elaborate but I use a squash ball pushed into top rail wherever I want door to be. Gives infinite amount of positions to hold door.

I fitted this one...called the Stopsy. It came with the adhesive shown. The noise it made as the roller went over it was horrendous,  I removed it next day but had to use a chisel to remove the glue , straight in the bin.

I just use a felt furniture pad on ours, hasn’t deformed after a year of use. I did make a similar metal bracket but similarly the clunk the door made put me off, so I removed it.

I’ve had one like this fitted for a few years now and it has been fine. If you let the door run fast it doesn’t look that great as the door kinda bounces around so suggest watching for that. I asked if there was a stop option from AS and it’s what they fitted or similar.

I think Reimo do one, in fact here it is. It might even be the same thing.

Have been happy with it. Note it won’t stop the door from sliding open on hills, say if parking on a hill and using the side door. it just stops it sliding closed.

The UK Leisure Parts one is from Reimo.  I believe that UKLP are one of Reimo's UK agents.

I just use in two places heavy duty velcro, two pieces either side of the stop place, holds door correctly.

Fitted the stop but don’t think it will be on long , it work but takes quite a bit of force to get the roller past it, I may take a file to it and reduce the hight a little, it’s not as noisy as the stop I had fitted earlier

I have used Velcro, it lasts about a year with the kind of use it gets. Cheaper and easier is to put three layers of adhesive tape at the point where you want the door to stop (gentle, not jarring and easily replaced when worn).

Been using a tennis ball for six years, three for a pound from Poundland. Infinite variations of door opening and still got two spares.

I filed the stop a little and it far better, hardly any clunk so I think I will attach it permanently with little adhesive

For years I’ve used a broom handle cut to size and dropped into the channel.

The problem with adding something as required is that this exercise has to be carried out each time the door is moved. Sticking three strips of (in my case) Duck Tape gives a permanent solution that requires no further intervention.

On the track that the suspension wheel runs on. The same place that you would fit a "Stopsy" (see Paulmold post above).

So am I correct in assuming that all these devices fit in the top rail, away from the closing cables in the bottom rail?
