Battery Charging problem
Hi Friends
When I was in the Talisman today, I noticed that the leisure battery had totally failed, even though I have it plugged in at the mains and the green light on the control panel indicates that to be the case. The reason for the battery discharge may be down to the fact that I had been testing the water pump every day since I purchased the vehicle last Tuesday. I am trickle charging the battery at the moment with my car battery charger and noticed that after just a few minutes, all the lights were working when switched on, so hopefully I haven't ran down the battery so much, as to weaken it.
Unfortunately I am a campervan novice and have been reading avidly, the handbook which came with it. I cannot find anywhere in it about the leisure battery being charged whenever the van has the mains lead connected to it.
The previous owner used the Talisman as his everyday vehicle and my limited understanding is that the battery would be charging as it was being driven. I myself have not actually driven it since driving the short distance home last Tuesday.
Does the Master switch on the control panel above the door, have to be on the on or off position for the in-built trickle charger to function?
How can I check to ascertain that the in-built charger is actually functioning?
Hoping that yous find the time to kindly answer these questions.
Many thanks

Re: Battery Charging problem
Not a direct answer to your question but I had a 2002 AS Symbol and that had a Zig control panel which has a switch to direct mains charge to the vehicle or Leisure battery if that helps. That is it is only ever charging one or the other at any point in time and the changeover is manual.
Maybe post a photo of your control panel.
Maybe post a photo of your control panel.

Re: Battery Charging problem
Hello, fellow Autosleeper people! We are also very new to this. We have a 2001 Harmony and today discovered that it would not start; we assume the vehicle battery is dead (although a multimeter shows it at 12.6v?) Anyway, no where in the manuals does it say what the large right hand rocker switch does - can anyone help? And when parked at home, should the Battery Charger switch (second photo) be off?

Re: Battery Charging problem
For what it's worth, I keep the Sargent control panel active by keeping the 12 volt system turned on when parked up and charging. That enable me to see the tiny charging symbol against the selected battery and in that way I know that the charger is active.

It’s always best to start your own thread as the original question can get missed and not answered

For better or worse Orac (and many will say worse, me included) the system the OP has is a completely different beast to what we have in newer vans.
