Pump continuously running
Can anyone please advise me.
Having just arrived on site, we find the pump will run but not actually pump the water. The handbook says it's either empty or there is a major leak, neither of which applies.
The van is 2016 Symbol and the pump was working a week ago on a long trip to Scotland.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Tony

Sorry if I’m stating the obvious.
Water in tank? … edit just seen that is ok
Frost drain valve closed?
Possible air lock?

Do not let it just run you may burn it out. Try switching on and off. Close all taps bar one and try sucking

Re: Pump continuously running
One thing we need to know....is it a submersible pump ( it is on the water tank) or is it an external pump?
Best fix if it is an airlock is, as GEF says is get a hose which is a close fit on a tap nozzle and sick hard with the pump running.
So, first what pump is it?

Thanks all for the fast responses.
IanH, being a numpty I have no idea what sort of pump. How do I determine that?

Re: Pump continuously running
Where is the pump noise coming from? Buried in the tank under the van (submersible) or inside the van?
I’m guessing a submersible in a 2016 van.

Thank you all.
I have solved the problem by walking to a local pub, and on return it's working.
I wish I could solve all my problems that way

Re: Pump continuously running
As you're Wilts based, it must be a submersible pump then......
Having spent 12yrs or so there, where it rains a lot ( I still switch on my wipers passing the Wilts border signs to this day, irrespective of current weather) it would really need to be submersible!!!!

Pump on my Warwick XL is submersible I've learnt after a drain down and refill if the pump runs with no water at the tap to jump up and down sway side to side in the back of the van doing this so far has never failed, its an air lock doing what I do dislodges it.

Re: Pump continuously running
Similar problem 'pump continuously running'. Its a submersible. No leaks, no airlock, water running freely from taps. Closing all taps the pump continues to run. Narrowed the problem down to a faulty pressure switch [NRV]. Adjusting the knob on the pressure switch makes no difference. The pressure switch, under bench seat, is very difficult to access, dismantle, clean or work on. Resorted to purchasing a new, same model, pressure switch.Waiting for it to arrive. Will then make sure I remove the old pressure switch in some way and replace it with the new one, making sure this time its easily accessible. If this fails to solve the problem its the route to installing the Shurflo pump, same as many informative members on this forum has already done.

I had similar problem. I ordered a direct replacement NRV from Amazon, came next day. During fitting the replacement, I noticed the original valve had some dirt in the NRV which I easily cleaned out and then it worked fine.
Result is I now have a spare NRV
Fitting was easy on Warwick Duo (even for me) but there is a technique required with the push fit connectors.

I prefer the going to the pub solution, all we need is the name of the pub

Re: Pump continuously running
Yes, I also anticipate it will be a dirty NRV that's the culprit. Whale has a number of useful videos on youtube explaining how to dismantle, change and clean the NRV which for me could have been useful. However, given one of the electrical connector tabs on the NRV is also loose [and has caused connection problems for me in the past] it will be replaced with a new NRV. I only hope I can master the art of disconnecting the push-fit pipe connectors, in what is a very confined space and to add, I have very short nails.AutoSleepy_Don wrote:

PS. on the very same day the NRV packed in, the kitchen mixer tap started leaking [caused by the pump not turning of and water pressure in the system increasing??] and then power to the 12v sockets failed. A new cartridge for the tap and new fuse for the electrics solved this problem. I would like to say I'm a strong believer that such unfortunate incidents usually comes in three's, at least it does for me.

Re: Pump continuously running
It’s somewhat reassuring to know I’m not the only one with pump problems and will be taking the NRV apart to clean it as soon as I can. Previously have resolved the issue by driving up a steep hill and bleeding the system (again!).
Thanks all for the information.

Re: Pump continuously running
Constantly running pump problems are something that caught me out when we first used our Rienza. After loading our belongings in the under bench locker a folded camping chair was resting on the frost drain tap causing it to open slightly.
I made a cover to prevent this happening again and moved the chairs to the other end of the locker.

Thanks, FreelanderUK.
Don't think I got that sheet with the bumf that came with the van (and didn't think of looking anywhere else online other than this forum) so it'll come in useful if the problem returns.
And of course the pub remedy fails

Re: Pump continuously running
My problem was with a 21 Symbol that has had little use. The NRV is under the bench along with the pressure control switch. Very exposed when you start loading stuff, I’ve boxed mine in.
I have now dismantled and cleaned the NRV although I couldn’t see a problem, blown air down the water feed from the tank, reassembled, bled the system, adjusted the pressure switch as per instructions and everything is working well. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Re: Pump continuously running
Hi similar problem to the above posters. I think the pump has been damaged by running dry when I try to bleed the system as it is now quite noisy. My van is a 2017 warwick Duo and the pump is a submersible. I would like to upgrade it to an external Shure pump as I believe others have done this and left the old knackered pump in situ. Problem is being an computer nudity I cannot find the link in the forum to the description of what type and how to fit it. Has anyone any links they can post please?
