Earth lighting issues Empty Earth lighting issues

Post by Markdell62 Tue Mar 07, 2023 5:05 pm

Hi all on Fudge I seem to be getting a strange earthing lighting issue.
When I put on the indicator the brake light goes on and off too?

Anyone got any idea how I can sort this easily?

Cheers

Yep left rear when the indicator is on press the brake pedal and it flashes too
Both work fine independently of eachother

Almost certainly an earthing fault on the light cluster. Put on the indicator and get someone to brake at the same time.  You might even get the other side malfunctioning. When I had caravans an earth fault on the seven pin cable connection to the.chassis could result in bizarre and misleading rearlight illumination.  I Iearned to ALWAYS check 2 of the 3 main lighting functions simultaneously, normally indicator plus brake. What happens might even affect the other side, particularly if the two sides are not electrically separate on the supply side.  99% that it's poor earthing of the bulb(s) or their holders, possibly due to corrosion. Get to the back of the light clusters, remove the bulbs and inspect bulb and holder using fine Emery to remove corrosion. If that doesn't cure it then check the earth connections to the bulb holders.

Have you replaced a bulb recently ? If so check the base of the bulb, some have a single connector some have two. I installed a two pin connector when it should have been a single and had the exact same issues as you describe.
