1999 Duetto Gas Locker shelf
Hi All,
Has anyone raised the shelf above the gas locker in a Mk5 Duetto, to enable larger gas bottles to fit inside? I have just purchased a 7.5kg Safefill bottle, so will need to adapt the locker somehow (safely of course).

Hi
Not as far as I know but the issue is being discussed here:

I think sealing the new locker is the main issue. If you do it let us know what you did

Same van and currently pondering - i thought the 5kg Safefill bottle might just fit in?

The 7.5kg bottle only just doesn't fit, probably by approx 10mm or so, a 5kg bottle should fit easily, if you have the same locker.

My shelf is 515mm above the floor, how high is yours? Maybe mine has been already raised?

ah - sounds like we have the same van - mine is 1998. Measured in every way - just short of 490mm. Back to the drawing board!

Re: 1999 Duetto Gas Locker shelf
A bit puzzled by previous posts, we too have a 99 Duetto and the top of the locker is only just high enough to get in a 3.9kg Calor bottle so don't know how you could possibly get a 5kg or 7.5kg in there unless it has been substantially modified. A previous owner of our Duetto had cut out the top of the locker/floor of cupboard to accomodate 6kg bottles but the dealer wouldn't allow us to take it away until it had been returned to original as it wouldn't pass a gas inspection the way it was!
My plan at present to get around the withdrawal of the 3.9gk bottles by Calor is to go over to Gaslow refillable bottles 2.7kg with a charging connection outside, that is until I use up all my Calor bottles after I bought my local dealers end of stock ;-)
Just been out and measured ours and its 400mm high.

I believe that the shelf in my locker / cupboard has been modified, it is approx 515mm above the floor. I can almost fit a 7.5kg safefill in, I just need to drop part of the floor to be able to tilt the bottle in.

I've just seen the Flogas bottles are max 370mm high - have I missed something obvious as this would fit the Duetto?? Or are they in short supply?

I just wanted to go down the refillable route with just the one larger Safefill bottle, it appears that my gas locker is a bit taller than the original.

How much will the conversion to safefill cost?
If I could fit the bottles I would prob do the same, Flogas available locally here so all good!

The conversion costs are for the bottle, i also had to swap over the butane regulator to a propane one with a handwheel connection. The 7.5kg bottle cost me 203 pounds, and 11 pounds for the rest.

The Safefill bottles are made of a composite material, so they are much lighter than the steel bottles. You will need to check the dimensions of your locker to see if one will fit - as i said in one of my previous posts, my locker is higher than standard (i believe).
