Surflow pump
Hi all, I’ve been pretty trouble free since I bought my Corinium….5 years on and maybe the water pump is due for renewal…
It might just be air locked because the pump is running ..but it’s refusing to prime if it’s o.k…
Can someone help me with advise about which new pump to purchase and if it’s a diy job to replace…
Ray

Re: Surflow pump
Probably the most time consuming part of replacing the pump is getting access to it in the first place.
If you are going to replace like with like it should be a straight forward task, well within the abilities of most DIYers.
Continuous running of the pump could well be an indication of a leak elsewhere in the system, so have a good check throughout.
I can't help you with the specific pump fitted to your van, but they are readily available through all the usual internet sources, once you have got access to it, you will be able to find its specification on the pump.
good luck
Nick

Cheers Nick, it isn’t a leak issue, it’s most probably an air lock…
Unfortunately I can’t get it to clear so at 5 years old…I’m going to replace it…

Re: Surflow pump
20psi .any higher and you run risk of joints parting as they are only push fit.

Re: Surflow pump
I'm surprised its not a Whale pump on your van - maybe it was and you replaced it? My diaphragm is a flojet and it took 5 mins to replace it on Wells campsite.
If it is a shurflo then the gasket on the diaphragm chamber can develop a pin hole leak so try sealing that before replacing.

Re: Surflow pump
A quick question re thé old pressure switch….
Does water flow through the pressure switch from the tank?…..
I’m assuming that it does when the switch is energised!

Re: Surflow pump
Yes it does, not sure about the pump you have purchased but the Shurflo doesn't need the pressure switch and is plumbed in to the original pressure switch connections

Re: Surflow pump
When I fitted the Shurflo pump, I bypassed the original pressure switch, but left the old pipes in place as also the sub. pump in case I ever need to go back to the original installation. This is inline with what Bilbobaggins has said and has been working well for past 3 years.

Re: Surflow pump
Thanks all, I can remove the pressure switch, The new whale has its own switch…it fits just the same as the sureflow, I purchased it simply because the pipe work just plugs straight in, no extra couplings to source and I thought I needed to fit it straight away..because the in tank pump had failed!
As it happens, the in tank pump is fine..albeit tired!….it’s working now whilst I’m on holiday but I need to change it asap…before I go away again in about 10 days.

Re: Surflow pump
Hi Ray
I had Derby Motorhomes fit a new Surflo pump a couple of years ago.
As the were taking the freshwater tank out under warranty to clean the water sensors they removed the old intank pump.
They did comment had the tank not have to come out they would have left the old pump in the tank.
I think the Whale & Surfo pumps are much the same.
Enjoy your holiday

Re: Surflow pump
Cheers for that Terry, I had considered putting an access panel in the floor to clean the tank!
I personally think it would be a good practical modification, however I’d have to be sure the structural integrity of the floor would be maintained.

Re: Surflow pump
Hi, I have a 2021 Kemerton XL, with which I replaced my 2015 Kemerton. Becuase we spend a lot of holiday in France and Spain I have been considering getting autosleepers to replace the Whale Submersible pump with an external shurflo pump. They would remove the old pump and just fit a pipe to near the bottom of the tank. Some leave the old pump in place as a water take off. Is it best to remove the old pump or will leaving it in not work as well.

Re: Surflow pump
Willersey did mine and felt the only proper way was to remove the submersible which meant dropping the tank. As far as I can gather, most DIYers leave the submersible in place as it's the easiest thing to do. I drain down after every trip. This involves unscrewing the Shurflo's filter which allows all the water trapped in the pipe to drain out of the tank. Some water will stay in the submersible pump and be a potential source of biological growth if the pump is not removed but I suppose it will be no worse than before the Shurflo was fitted.NormR wrote:Hi, I have a 2021 Kemerton XL, with which I replaced my 2015 Kemerton.
