Led awning light
Out this week and used awning light since I cannot remember when. Three small dark areas of no leds, still enough light to be of use but obviously not correct, could live with it but prefer for it to be as should be.Looks like whole drip rail has to be replaced which may be more expensive than it’s worth at mo.Has anyone had or have this defect and done anything to repair it?

Re: Led awning light
The LED strip can be replaced from the outside. There is a removable cap at each end of the housing. Remove one of these(not very easy) and the LED strip slides out. Cut the wires leaving a few inches behind. Insert the new strip and solder the new to old wires and insulate.

Re: Led awning light
If length matches the width of the sliding door then I had the same problem. It's a Dometic Raintec RT100 and I purchased the product from AS to retrofit to the Kemerton. Within a year several LEDs had failed and AS agreed to replace the LED tape strip under warranty as I didn't want to remove the whole unit. Sliding out the defective tape strip and in with the replacement was fairly straightforward, just as described above by KMRTOPAZ. If you're handy with a soldering iron and are able to make the cable connections weatherproof then you should have no problem.
I don't think Dometic sell just the tape strip for the Raintec so either go to AS Parts Dept or look for a suitable tape strip from a specialist LED supplier. If you go down the latter route (quite possibly cheaper than AS) it needs to be IP56 weatherproof rated, which will mean it's encased in a rectangular profile clear silicon sleeve. Check the width matches, make sure it's a 12V tape (some are 24V) and look to match the same number of LEDs per metre. You'll need to request a soldered cable connection on the tape or be prepared to do it yourself, and you may need to seal the ends of the silicon sleeve. I can recommend the following supplier, who carry a wide range of tapes and who I've used many times for lighting projects:

Re: Led awning light
A bit nerve-wracking to remove one end ( with difficulty) when you know that if you fail it becomes an even worse job! How did you remove an end and how was it secured?
At the moment I have just one duff led - but that's not to say that others won't become duff.

Re: Led awning light
Ron, you’ll have a different type of awning light to the one I’ve described, which is designed for van conversions.

Re: Led awning light
I shall try to load a couple of photos. The first shows the right hand end cap intact. Second shows my finger under the edge of the release. Now lift and push out to the right. The led strip will now pull out to the right. This is a new fitting. The one which was difficult was mounted on the van which made it tight and awkward (sp ?) job.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

But when only 1 led is playing up and when that led starts working again in warmer weather then the risk/ reward equation moves heavily towards leaving well aloneKMRTOPAZ wrote:Ron.
