ABS brakes on Trooper
Hello all,
We are about to buy a VW Trooper circa 2000 and the owner thinks it has ABS brakes which (I think) were an optional extra. How would I know or find out that this is the case? Owner has the original AS manuals and VW ones.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Regards
Andrew

Is there an ABS warning light that comes on when you turn the ignition on? If there isn't I would say there is no ABS.

I didn't notice one, I'll double check when I view the car again later this week. Thank you!hillhead wrote:Is there an ABS warning light that comes on when you turn the ignition on? If there isn't I would say there is no ABS.

Agreed - you should definitely see the ABS symbol in the dash come on and go off with the ignition.
The ABS pump is also quite distinctive, so you should see it in the engine compartment:

Not sure about VW, my Boxer based Symphony has one universal brake warning light which covers handbrake, pad wear indicator, brake fluid level indicator and ABS when fitted - also optional.

On a VW T4 there is a specific warning light, with the letters ABS in the centre.
