Duetto front brake discs Empty Duetto front brake discs

Post by iceman Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:00 pm

Need some advice. Does anyone know the part number for the front brake discs and pads for a Nov 1994 Duetto with alloy wheels and is it a difficult operation to change them? Also need to know where to source them with delivery to France if possible. Thanks.

Hi iceman ... surprised you've had no reply to this ...... I just read it. Am I right in thinking the Duetto is Transit based in which case any Ford garage in France should be able to help. If not google Euro Car Parts and enter your vehicle reg. (your UK reg if you've re-registered it in France.) No big deal to change if you're mechanic minded - remove road wheel, draw out old pads, unbolt two bolts retaining caliper, and then a couple of grub screws which hold the disc to the hub. (if my memory serves me correctly!!)

If you still have trouble, post your Reg. No. and chassis number and I'll look them up for you.

regards

I concur with BobK,

Go to the garage, & say MKV Transit & they should be able to go from there. The Duetto is based on a Ford Tourneo Minibus base with the discs being, 254mm x 23.9mm, should be around £20 per disc.

Drive to garage ---- Bonjour Monsieur ---- (always be polite) ----- Je désire acheter un ensemble de plaquettes de frein et des disques d'une marque de 5 Transit, s'il vous plaît. Il a des roues en alliage (it probably doesn't matter if it has alloy wheels)

I've checked Euro Car Parts - discs from £18 - £27 dependent on make & quality and pads from £17 - £22. They deliver to France for £17.95 but I'm sure you can source them locally.

Re the translation ... no offence iceman, I'm sure your French is good !!! hugegrins

Thanks to all for your help. Have now sourced the parts in Birmingham and a friend is sending them over to me. I could buy them here but I don't really want to take out a morgage at my age!!! Auto parts here are tres, tres cher!! Cheaper to buy from 'Treasure Island' and have them sent over. Does anyone know the BHP of my Duetto? Can't seem to find the info in the handbook. Once again, thanks for all the help. Great forum. topmarks

Interesting that they should be "tres cher" what with the good rate on the euro. Good luck anyway .... chrisvesey - yep, you're right, I've got the 7mm hex tool made by Sykes Pickavent, ..... couldn't remember if it was used, or 19mm bolts ...... try to avoid these tasks nowadays.

Go for it iceman, don't be alarmed, the 7mm is just an "allen key " .... good luck

Does anyone know the BHP of my Duetto? Can't seem to find the info in the handbook.

If your Duetto is the same as mine (95 Duetto)............
eg: code 4DA on Vin plate, then power is 59Kw/80ps/79bhp.

Mine is a great old van & drives OK on the level or downhill, but up hills it's not so good.
I'm planning to tweak the fuelling to improve performance(without affecting overall fuel consumption).
I was a mechanic years ago & still have all my tools etc.

Hope this helps........

Found the vin plate and it's as you say thanks. Just needed to check before ordering discs and pads that they were the right ones. (1/3 of the price I would have to pay here!!) My Duetto also runs very well on the flat etc. and struggles a bit on steep hills with lots of gear changing but then, I'm not in a hurry so I'm quite happy. Noisey engine due to the fact that 'someone' removed the sound insulation from the engine compartment. Probably when the wings were replaced. Will deal with it when I've got a minute!!! Any advice welcomed.

Just an update. Brake discs and pads now replaced and everything is running 'sweetly'. (Hope I don't regret saying that!!!) Am getting 33.44 MPG. Is this good-bad?

If my experience is anything to go by, this is good! My transit returns around 32MPG, and that's a SWB, where yours is (I think) a LWB with more equipment fitted, so quite a bit heavier.

And out of sheer pedantry I question whether a Duetto is based on a Tourneo, as I thought all Tourneos had tailgates, while IIRC Duettos have twin rear doors.

Pleased to hear the MPG is regarded as good. My Duetto, according to the AS handbook, is based on a LWB Ford Transit 100L Kombi. Two and a half ton so quite heavy. Have been told that adding 500ml of 2 stroke oil to a full tank will improve the performance so am going to give it a try and will post result.

I don't think it will improve performance. I've been adding 2 stroke oil - but in about half that quantity per tankfull - for the last 2 years, and I've never noticed any difference in either performance or economy. I do it because there is evidence that current diesel formulations contain less lubricants than they used to, and the 2 stroke oil may help ward off fuel pump problems, which can be very expensive to fix.

The only thing that I found to make a real positive contribution to economy was replacing the viscous rad fan with an electric one (which almost never comes on). That was good for around 2MPG improvement for motorway driving.
