T4 rear brake upgrade
Hi to all you fellow Autosleeper owners. I seem unable to find out any info on how to upgrade my rear brakes to discs. Does any of you master mechanics out there know how to upgrade the rear drum brakes on a VW T4 to disc brakes? It is a VW T4 1996 2.4D and has 15" wheels. Is there a supplier who does the upgrade kit with the necessary adapters etc included? Will I need to notify DVLA of the change? Sorry for all the questions.

Re: T4 rear brake upgrade
I've not heard of a conversion, but your best bet would be to ask on the UK T4 forum - there will be someone there who will know if such a standard product exists.
I suspect that one of the things that will trip you up will be front/rear bias, because the brake apportioning valve (which I guess yours will have) will be wrong with discs on the rear, so it will not be simple.
As with lots of safety-critical modifications, the problem is likely to be as much about finding someone to sign off the resulting lash-up as safe (in legal liability terms) to use on the roads.
I doubt that the DVLA would be interested, but of course your insurance company will need to be informed, and may ask searching questions about the safety of the resulting system.

Re: T4 rear brake upgrade
Hi Roopert, thanks for the advice. The brakes on these T4's are not great, especially when converted and therefore carrying an extra load. I know that there are kits to upgrade the front disc's tp larger ones, so perhaps that may be the way to go? I will take your advice and try the UK T4 forum.
cheers,
cheers,

Hi
I am no VW expert but i think to convert rear drums to discs would be a very expensive exercise with handbrake mechanics to change over, Did some models have rear disc brakes have tried a specialist breaker , I think you will do much better to uprate your front brakes
regards
Alan
