Air heater system Empty Air heater system

Post by Grabea Tue Jul 06, 2021 4:03 pm

Our newly purchased Duetto, 1999 Transit based, has a non functioning heater that I would like to investigate however I can't figure out how to gain access to the compartment where it lives next to the cooker, any suggestions?
Thanks

If its like my previous Symphony,  there is a hatch in  the carpet covered bench under the side sofa cushion. Slide the sofa towards you to reveal the said bench. It blends well with  the carpet covering the whole bench. Once you've discovered it you need a thin blade to lift it out.

Found the one for the hot water heater but the other one isn't obvious although it did look like there might be one there as you say, will have a poke about.
Thanks

Hi wave

What Paul said up!

If you’ve found the water heater you’re nearly there. There should be another removable hatch to the right. It’s directly behind the water inlet.

The wooden panel on the right of the picture is the right hand end of the seat right next to the cooker.
If your heater is original it’ll probably be a red Carver Compact 1600. Mine has been replaced.

We were told that parts for our Propex heater (1996 Duetto) were no longer available. So we bought a small fan heater instead. Only any good on EHU, obviously....

Air heater system Empty Re: Air heater system

Thanks for the pointers, I'm almost finnished my battery project so I can fold the nearside bed/seat back into a seat and then can pull the settee forward to access the heater, so far I have discovered that the fan works when the heater control is switched on but I'm missing the temperature thermostat!
I'm guessing any basic wall mounted thermostat would be suitable?
Anyone got any information on these heaters, like a connection diagram, etc?

What make and model is it? If it's a Propex then you can find the installation manuals on their website, and as far as I can see their heaters have hardly changed in the last 20 years. They are also quite helpful (well they were when I last spoke to them, though that was a few years back now!).

Air heater system Empty Re: Air heater system

Update, I've now completed my battery installation with VSR for charging from the engine, solar panel connected etc.
I gained access to the heater and it's not a Propex, as per the A/S manual we got with the van, but a Carver P4, the control on the bulkhead should have been a clue!
So here is what I've got, no lights on the control unit, press I once and when I turn the knob the fan starts and increases speed as the knob is turned, still no lights showing.
Pretty sure that while fiddling and pressing I multiple times no lights came on but will double check next.
Any suggestions for checks that can be made to determine where the fault lies, there seem to be lights on the heater unit itself, I assume the unit has power as the fan runs?

Hi all, it's definately a Carver P4 as above, black plastic case split along it's centre, and on trying it one more time it started and ran fine!
I think the indicator light for fan only must have failed but we can live with that.
Pressed I button a second time low setting flashed a couple of times and after a short wait it began blowing out warm air.
Pressed the I button again and high heat light flashed a couple of times and output temperature increased.
We had been told the heater didn't work, in fact the previous owner had fitted a diesel heater with fuel tank in the wardrobe which made the whole interior smell of diesel so we'd already removed that!
It only took a few minutes and the interior was toasty so I would think that the low setting would be adequate for most times as not planning any winter trips.
Many Thanks

There is a fault finding and instruction manual in the factsheets section (home page, scroll down).
Here it is anyway, you'll note I put it there as I had the p4 in my Symphony 97.

Thanks, yes the info was very useful with our investigations, I've printed them off for future reference as we didn't even have any operating instructions before.
