Fire extinguisher placement
So, the habitation service suggested a renewal of the fire extinguisher. I was never happy with its placement on the left hand side of the driver's seat. It was always in the way, got kicked repeatedly and the holder damaged and who on earth would waste time trying to get at it in a real emergency? So I removed it. There are now 5 screw holes showing in the seat trim. How do I make that look right? However the real problem I have is where to place the new unit which has a wire holder with only 2 screw fittings available. I am thinking beside the sliding door so that it is available on exit, if time allows. The problems I see are: I don't like screwing new holes into things, it seems rather heavy to be held by just two screws into the plastic trim by the sliding door behind the passenger seat. Maybe I can get some fancy screw fittings? Has anybody got any suggestions or actually found something better?

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
I moved the fire extinguisher to behind the drivers seat and bought a new side panel from Coastal Motorhomes ,cost about £34 if I remember correctly

I have mine now by the sliding door. I notice that you have a little cupboard near yours why not just put it in there

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
I also didn’t like it on the side of the drivers seat, so I moved it to the bottom of what I presume is the brolley holder. It sits there really nicely and is secure while also being safe from being knocked. I just screwed the holder in with self tapping screws and washers. The white bit is the awning handle which I’ve also put there with a clip. I haven’t bothered doing anything with the holes left on the side of the seat.

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
Mine is by the sliding door, where the raised cab floor curves round. The metal holder sits on the floor with two screws holding it in place.
It is accessible from both inside and outside when the door is open. I had to move it as we store bits of a mobility scooter between the front seats sometimes while on site and it got 8n the way. I haven't bothered about the holes in the side panel of the driver's seat..we don't see the panel when driving, or when in the rear lounge.

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
A bit different with our Rienza being a rear lounge coachbuild but the fire extinguisher was mounted next to the habitation door when we bought it. It seems a logical place for it.
Our Duetto had it mounted on the outside of the passenger seat box. You couldn’t get to it without opening the passenger door.

I should probably replace mine soon. A 2018 van, and god knows how long the fire extinguisher has been knocking around on an AS warehouse shelf before getting fitted in my van.
When I do replace it, as others have already done, I shall relocated it to behind the B pillar, and floor level.
And to sort out the holes in the drivers seat trim panel, I shall just put the screws back in. My guess is a few screw heads would look better than a few holes

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
I thought it was dangerous of AS to locate it in access point to the cab and moved ours to the same point as Sally has (i think) where its out of the way but still easy to access

Plenty of covers available as HB shows above. I used the snap on ones, bought cheap online somewhere for the correct screw size (B&Q shown for illustration).

I did just the same, and the screw heads look fine, like just any other - screw heads!
I usually work on the principle, "If you can't hide it, don't try. Make it a feature."

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
Just finished my jobs for the morning! Thought I would just check to see if there were any responses and hey presto. Some very good ideas. Putting it in the trolley holder seems neat but I wonder if we could get at it from outside the van. On the floor seems reasonable, particularly as I was wondering if just using the 2 screws to fix it to the plastic trim to the left of the sliding door, as you look at the van, would be secure enough. By being on the floor the weight would not be an issue. However it would take floor space and might get in the way and kicked. Hey Ho. Thanks again everyone.

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
Like Sally, I've put ours where it can be reached from outside. It's in its bracket, mounted at floor level, immediately inside the hab door.
A fireman said (some time ago on this forum) the first priority in the event of fire is to get out fast!!
Then quickly assess the situation, have the extinguisher where you can reach it without exposing yourself to danger, and if it's safe to do so you can reach in for it and extinguish the fire.
Makes sense to me!

You could try these, used to attach trim to cover screw holes

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
Never bothered me, after all I have a hole where I came out the wrong side of the cupboard when fitting the solar panel, you just get used to it and get on with enjoying the van. Also have clear stick on patches where dealer ran drill chuck on bathroom wall paper, don't notice it know, also have air gun pellet type marks in the front bumper where I drove it into the drive way chain, foot slipped off the clutch pedal, again am I bothered.Dbvwt wrote:“Who really notices a few screw holes, really.”

I would have thought the holes left when moving the fire bracket were too low down to see, don't get down that low these days even if I did that is were I would remain.

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
Funnily enough, I happened to notice the holes which remain unfilled on the side of my driver's seat when I was removing the carpets recently to clean them. They've been there for the 6 years since I moved and changed my extinguisher. On the Nuevo, it sits immediately inside the habitation door, hinge side Iscrewed solidly to the carcass surrounding the fridge. Being a pit over concerned about extinguishers ( get the 4 in our house and the Nuevo one serviced annually) I changed the one in the van for a 2 litres foam one. It's located by the exit door and the cooker & microwave. But golden rule is get out and save yourself, not the van
I once discharged in earnest (nachos!!) the dry powder one in our Clubman. I now know why they've since banned the use of dry powder save in certain locations, which do not include motorhomes!

Has anyone come across these "Firexo" branded extinguishers before?

You just reminded me that I once discharged a dry powder one in a Topaz, cannot remember how, but it made a right mess!Cymro wrote:Funnily enough, I happened to notice the holes which remain unfilled on the side of my driver's seat when I was removing the carpets recently to clean them. One up for a van with rear doors, an extra fire escape route.
Glad your screw holes were not driving you mad like some.

Re: Fire extinguisher placement
As an aside, can anyone tell from this if it is likely to be the original one as supplied and fitted by Autosleeper? If so, is there a direct replacement available that will fit the existing holder, that I took such pains to relocate?Sally wrote:I also didn’t like it on the side of the drivers seat, so I moved it to the bottom of what I presume is the brolley holder. Looks similar to the original from photo. You can find similar spec and sized ones from time to time in the centre isles of Lidle and Aldi
If you cant see a date on it I would replace it for what they cost.
